I like Dawson. Seems like a humble guy, and like he has the physical tools to be really good; he's tall, south paw, athletic, but...... something really seems to be missing and I can't put my finger on it.

Perhaps its that he's predictable with his offense and doesn't seem to counter much. When he goes on offense, he is on offense, when he is on defense he is on defense. But if this was the case, then how is it that he gets to land so man shots on Tarver and Johnson for instance.

He's good but not outstanding. Just a placeholder until somebody special comes along.

^^ I would agree. I think he is missing natural boxing i.q. and talent. Physical tools are there but just missing in the 'natural' area of the game.

Dawson is easily considered among the 3 most purely talented boxers in the game today. That's no place holder. What he's missing is the presence of mentally being there in the ring throughout the entire fight and not just in frequent spurts. Sometimes he drifts away and just coasts on auto pilot, but no one has made him pay for that yet because he can win even while boxing on auto pilot. So his chin and his mental presence are the only deficits i can see. That's still a long way away from placeholder. Talent wise, i consider him once in a decade type fighter.

What he lacks is personaltiy. He isnt dymanic. As far as boxing skills, he has them all. The only other thing that you could criticize him for is that he fights with his foot off the pedal once he gets a commanding lead.

I like chad a lot, and as much as I hate calzaghe...I think a prime calzaghe takes him apart with ease......chad will have problems with a guy that is as elite as he is because his mental game is lacking.....

He has good offensive skills, he is fast, he can box well, but his lack of pop and questionable chin would always limit his potential to be a great champion in this era.

Even with his suspect chin and average power?

Because his game is limited by those things.

Tarver and Johnson were both 40 years old and way past their primes especially Johnson a tough guy but one that is on the level of Clinton Woods at best. And he chooses to fight these guys when there are so many other good options for him.
