Anyone feel like this was very much like the Froch Dirrel fight?

Okay Froch landed a lot more then Valuev who was frankly dreadful, however the fight had the same pattern.

One faster, much more talented fighter counter punching but not quite busy enough.

Then when they did open up late n the class difference was obvious.

 

Dirrell held all night- Haye didn't. It was completely different. More akin to Khan-Kotelnik if you want to pick a recent fight:good.

It is inevitable that this fight is going to get compared to Froch/Dirrell just for the simple fact it happened so recently and people on message boards are and no disrespect to Andrew, reactionary. Froch did a lot more to win the fight than Valuev but that's largely going to get dismissed.

 

The thing is Dirrel did more then Haye too. I know he fell on his arse half a dozen times, but he landed more.

 

Hayes performance was far superior to Dirrells. Dirrell was equally inactive in rounds, and in Hayes late round flurry he managed to stun and wobble a previously unhurt man mountain. Froch was slightly stunned at the end of the 11th, but Haye landed nicer punches with better form throughout the fight, whilst overcoming a reach defecit (which Dirrell did not have) weight disparity (which Dirrell did not have) and managing to overcome even more hostile judges. I actualy think both fights were closer than they needed to be for the same reason: both fighters made their opponents miss regularly but by means of doing little in return in certan rounds it was hard to make it an all-out whitewash. Haye won more emphatically than Dirrell, no doubt.

 

Only in the basic fact that there was a very clear aggressor and defender in both fights. Not much aside from that IMHO.

Last nights fight was a lot easier to score than Dirrell-Froch.

 

Haye adopted the tactics he did to negate the physical advantages that Valuev clearly had - 9 inch reach, 7 stone weight, 8 inches height. Dirrell, being of equal size to Froch, had no such disadvantages. Having said that Haye still engaged Valuev more than Dirrell did Froch.

 

Dirrell held, turned his back, ducked below the waist and fell over all night against a man the same size as him. Haye ducked, weaved, blocked all night against a man 9 inches taller and 6 and a half stone heavier. Both were defensive displays, however Hayes was impressive whereas Dirrells was basically illegal.

 

Froch was able to hurt Dirrell throughout the fight with single shots that had himn holding on for dear life.... that never happened to Haye. Haye also looked like he was about finish Valuev in the last round and he looked helpless.... Froch never looked helpless once against Dirrell, so.... NO!

 

Alot of people had Valuev up by more then 2 rounds, Watt and Piper included.

IMO Haye won clearly, but there are people who dont see it like that at all.

Funny, I don't ever remember Valuev really ever catching Haye flush in that fight.... yet I remember Haye doing to Valuev in almost every round (although not as often as I would of liked)

 

Surely the first and last time anyone will ever compare Dirrell to Valuev

Anyway, no I don't. Valuev has to land punches to be like Dirrell, as opposed to walking forward looking mean and jabbing the space where Haye's head was a second ago.

 

A problem with Watt last night was that I was never 100% sure if he was scoring the fight how he saw it or how he thought the judges would see it.

 

I think different fights. Haye actually boxed and defended himself...Dirrell run away from punches which isn't a skill. He also held and also try spoil the fight...Haye landed crisp hard shots...i'm not to sure Dirrells shots had venom in them till late on when he wobbled Froch. Some of his shots didn't even land people fall for the sound affects. Plus Haye wasn't made to work like Dirrell was...Valuev never even got close to roughing up Haye.
