If the fight was over 15 rounds, Jeffires would be finished anyway..

So there is no need for 45 rounds...

 

But if he can't put Jeffries down for the count of ten then how is he going to win inside 15 rounds?

Even if he could somehow do it he wouldn't be able to go into a 45 round fight on the assumption that he only needed to go for 15 rounds. He would have to train to go 45 rounds and employ a strategy that assumed a 45 round duration.

In Jeffries era you practicaly had to have one eye hanging out on the optic nerve before they would stop a fight.

What is going to happen in the 20th round and the 25th?

 

Your saying its impossible a sustained beating of flush right hands knocks Jeffries out? Ali probably hits harder than Johnson who made Jeffries quit (probably would have been stopped in the following round)

 

That he did KO one of the best chins ever is grounds for thinking that. Ali KO'd a guy that fought into middle age and met huge punchers. None of them could duplicate Ali's feat.

That alone doesn't say that Ali would KO Jeffries, but it certainly is grounds to say he could. And of course, Foreman wasn't the only tough chin that Ali cracked.

But saying that about Ali doesn't? A man who fought Liston, Foreman, Shavers, Frazier, Patterson, MacFoster, Lyle, Lewis etc without ever taking the full count and only once being stopped.

Jeffries never proved himself against even nearly the same punching power. He didn't crack nearly as tough chins as Foreman's and Bonavena's either.

Ergo: From what evidence we have it seems more likely that Ali would stop Jeffries than vice versa.

 

Foreman was tired many times, even more tired than that. But he was only KO'd once. At over 40 he was hit by tremendous shots by Holyfield when more or less exhausted, but he still stayed on his feet.

Same with Bonavena. He was tired when Ali got to him, but that was hardly the only time he was that tired. The only time he didn't last the distance, though.

And there are more examples. There have been many more devastating punchers than Ali, but Ali's speed, accuracy and killer instinct made him a very dangerous puncher. For a guy that primarily wasn't looking for the KO and who almost always choose caution before risking exposure through big punches, he has one impressive KO record.

I'm not even sure Ali looked the more tired against Chuvalo after 15, even though he finished big. One thing we should make clear: Ali never ever danced for 15 rounds. No 210 lbs guy could do that. In his prime he could move more or less constantly over 15, but he only danced for a couple of rounds.

Besides, it's pretty tiring to get punched on for 15 rounds as well.

One should also remember that Ali, well past his prime, was the last man standing over the perhaps most brutal 14 rounds that's ever been fought at HW.

Outlasting him was probably only marginally more easy than KO'ing him. The guy had fantastic will power and great stamina in his prime.
