Haye's Chin: STILL Questionable!!!

Amazing how people will turn Haye slipping, ducking and avoiding dozens of punches for round after round into a criticism.

 

Why are you laughing? I make one point, you misread it and what I said was laughable?

I don't and never have rated Maccarinelli. However, you said Haye ran to protect his chin, in which case, why didn't he run against other punchers? For all his faults, Macca can is a puncher.

He also has better technique than Valuev too. Haye has beaten better offensive fighters than Valuev and not run. In a fight he breaks his hand in the 2nd round, he fights on the backfoot and now you say hes scared?

I am not worried in the slightest as Haye will overcome any fighter who is put in front of him including the Klits.

I would say that Haye's cruiserweight speed in the HW realm means he is less likely to be hit cleanly, so wouldn't surprise me if he is less susceptible to big shots at HW because his movement means when they do hit they're either semi-blocked or glancing.

Question marks are still there, but it adds to the excitement and David is fully aware of his chin, no one likes taking blows and boxing is all about slipping and hitting.

Maccarinelli is not a slow puncher. He also has good punching technique. His flaws are that he gets sloppy late in fights, and he lacks a chin.

You are going to be precaucious, if you think he has the power to knock you out. Maccarinelli did, apparently, have the power to hurt Haye, yet Haye walked straight into his offense. He wasn't afraid of being hit. Frankly, Haye is so much of a better boxer, he could have simply outboxed Maccarinelli, like he did Valuev, totally avoid getting hit clean and still stopped him. Yet he chose to fight.

There's absolutely no reason to suggest that Haye has ever been scared of being hit.

I agree that his chin was weaker at cruiserweight and if it didn't improve, he would be stopped.

However, his chin has improved! There is a long list of fighters whose punch resistance has been hindered because of extreme weight draining. Miguel Cotto, Nigel Benn, Amir Khan...even granite chinned fighters like James Toney. There are medical reports backing the theory suggesting that boxers who drain themselves too much, are prone to brain damage because their brains lack the water to cushion any blows. Therefore, boxers who weight drain like Haye did, are more likely to get knocked down.

He has now taken punches at heavyweight, by a proper heavyweight. Something you didn't think he would do. I think it's time you accept his chin is better than it was.



Just answer me this one question. Knowing Haye has always fought offensively against big punchers and better punchers, do you not think the fact that this fight was different, is more down to the size difference and Haye breaking his hand? What reason do you have, to say that Haye was scared of getting hit, given that he's fought people more likely to knock him out in the past, and never took a backwards step?

 

Last night didn't prove anything about Haye's chin. But getting on his back about fighting on the back foot is a bit harsh. It was the smart way to fight. It's not everyday you have to fight a 7 foot giant who out weighs you by 7 stone. I know he wasn't anywhere near as aggresive as we'd hoped but he still got the job done, bad hand or not. I think if he fights one of the brothers Klit he will engage a bit more. But it's stupid to think he's going to just go in there and have a slugfest with these big guys.
