This isnt new. David hasnt liked doing roadwork since he turned pro. Iv mentioned it many times on this site. He's into all this new age bull**** like sitting in Oxygen containers. Haye has oodles of talent. But he's lazy and his attitude is wrong.
It varies from one fighter to the next. Personally i like to do both and have found much better success by doing both. You need the CV endurance as well as the physical conditioning to throw punches. Personally i believe there is no compensation for skipping running sparring and bag/pad work. Those are core fundamentals of boxing that work end of story.
Builds fast twitch explosive power as well increasing reaction time. When i run i alternate between a slow jog and sprinting in bursts. Its the best way to get the heart really pumping.
The running in the morning is simply tradition. You'll actually run alot better at least an hr after having breakfast. Running on an empty stomach at 5 in the morning is some Rocky V old school BS.
Then wtf do they make run in the gym **** just hitting that dam heavy body bag with my coach is tough enough and I run 2 miles each dam day ..**** im placing a complaint I need new cardio training ..I also hear Juan Diaz swims and the stair master ..No road work either .
I love long distance running, I usually mix it up with sprints too. I seem to do a lot more running than most and I have my first amateur fight booked for december fourth, I'm confident the extra road work I do will help to give me an advantage. Read an interesting Sugar Ray Leonard article recently on how he loves to run and he believes it gave him the stamina to win the olympics. I don't believe it is a coincidence that haye does not do much road work and has suspect stamina.
Haye has done roadwork.... plenty of times, maybe for some reason he didnt do it for this fight, but he has definately done roadwork a lot in the past.
yeah i no what your saying, but if your going on a run early then your getting out of bed early, getting your metabolism started quicker when i first said it i meant to say its A reason to do it, not THE reason lol. apologies
