I'd say the win over Taylor was too.

I saw the best of McGuigan ans the worst of him. No doubt in my mind that Hamed at his best would have stopped Barry McGuigan at his best. Hamed did not duck Barrera like McGuigan shamefully avoided taking on the great Azumah Nelson. McGuigan was not a great fighter period. Hamed is a great featherweight champion.

What does McGuigan not fighting Nelson have to do with a fantasy match up against Hamed?

The answer starts with jack and ends with ****.

Pedroza, yes but he was past prime, LaPorte no

The key point is that Hamed ducked no one like McGuigan did. It is not even debateable that Hamed and Azumah would both have knocked out McGuigan.

McGuigan admitted himself that Nelson might have been a bit too good for him. So what? It's irrelevant. Hamed was nothing like Nelson in style and leagues below him as both a fighter and a champion. In every department except power. I'll not say that Hamed ducked Marquez outright; that issue has already been commented on. But I think he knew what kind of a threat Marquez represented, and the fight never came off. Hamed's opposition at feather was largely unspectacular as well. He certainly never defeated anyone as good as Taylor, LaPorte or Pedroza, even if the latter two were had seen better days. He never beat anyone as good as McGuigan really.

If you think that Hamed beats McGuigan, come up with a stylistic comparison backed by actual evidence from both of their careers. Yes, it's very conceivable that Hamed could win. 'Not even debateable'? Bollocks.

Pedroza may have been past his best, but still very useful. He was still notching up succesful title defences until he ran into the Clones Cyclone.

Barry at his best was a very rythmical fighter, capablev of defenging when going forwards, and had great stamina, and a wicked left hook to the body, He didnt just attack in a streight line, he came in behind a left Jab, from various angles, and i cant help but think that Naz will be made to feel very uncomfortable with having to fight, respond 3 high paced minutes of every round, I think Barry will leave him flustered with the pressure, and those Hooks to the Liver will sap Naz's movement until he is just looking to land a big shot on Barry to rescue the situation, i dont think Barry gives him the Luxury of Time to Plot its Landing.

In full flow there was no Brakeman on Barry's Train, he has a bad Cargo for Hamed and i think he would deliver it around the 9th

Fighters to worry about what Naz was going to do give him Set-up opportunities, Good Fighters who go about their High-Class business and leave the Responding to Hamed would be half way there,

When Barry got caught with a big shot by Laporte he kept his head, readjusted and came back, he could come through a rocky patch or two

When i watch Naz against Paul Ingle i think if it was Barry in there instead i think the Cyclone would blow him out of the ring, Barry would not be put off or slowed down by pulled faces, shakes of the head, or wide stances and waving arms, Barry was All Business and would not allow Naz any Playtimes ! I think by the half way stage Naz is so concerned about Barry Left hook to the Body he Forgets Barry has a Thumping Right hand also, and this might be the punch that puts ultimately him on ***** street, that and Fatique from Barrys unrelenting Pace.

You could make the same case that he ducked Marquez and Morales, and that he ducked Barrera until only after it looked like the Morales fight had taken something out of him.

It certainly is debatable in Hamed's case, as he arguably never KO'd a FW as good as McGuigan.

This. Great post. McGuigan was a great fighter and can't be dismissed against someone like Hamed.

Ive went to a lot of McGuigan fights in his prime and ive seen hamed fight too and to my mind there is no question who the winner is. McGuigan had a long reach and was VERY heavy-handed for a guy his weight. Great body puncher, jabber, could box and had every punch in the book plus he fought better fighters than Hamed. People forget how good a body puncher he was. He would have cut the stomach of Hamed plus he could fight for 15rounds. As for him avoiding Nelson, well thats just balls. McGuigan fought a guy called Charm Chitule in a eliminater for the commonwealth title which he won in 10rounds. The title holder was Nelson who then relinquished the title. Now im not saying Nelson avoided him or that McGuigan would have beaten him but if he wanted him sooo much then why not fight him when he had the chance. I'll tell you one thing, that period in 84/85 McGuigan was a great fighter,as was Nelson, and it would have been a toss-up who won. But i digress, this is about if he fought hamed and i fancy him strongly to beat Hamed. Just thought i'd throw that in about Nelson. This is my first time here and it looks a great forum.

I have only seen bits of mcguigan

is he really such a better and more accurate bodypuncher than barrera or anybody nas fought that hed finish him in 9 despite naz never really looking even hurt by body punches?

I wont make a prediction because I havent seen enough of Mcguigan but I think Hamed is getting a bit short changed here at times.

Honestly, i havent seen too many better body punchers than mcGuigan. Just look at the body shot he hit Bernard Taylor with just before the end of the fight. You can see the fight draining out of him after that shot. He did the same with Valerio Nati for the european title. Check out you-tube, theres bound to be something on him

Naz would catch McGuigan at some point, McGuigan was tough but I doubt he could withstand the awkward bombs Naz would throw.

I expect McGuigan to be well ahead on points and having landed some really nice shots, flooring Naz a few times, but as we move into the sixth Naz catches him with an uppercut and floors him, finishing him off brutally moments later.

I don't feel McGuigan was as good a Feather as Naz, regardless of his win over Pedroza. In terms of aesthetics, McGuigan's style matches fairly well into Naz's.

    IN MY OPINION
