I agree with this thread. I believe it is due to the majority of boxing fans not truly understanding what it is REALLY like to be in the ring. ESPECIALLY at that kind of level.

I think some fighters just look/and are so damn talented, fans are always wanting more from them.

Chad Dawson: He's another example of this. He fought virtually a perfect fight last night. People say he should have had a KO. he was boring, ect. Well hell, I don't think it's real fair to expect him to KO Johnson or Tarver.

Guys like fighters who leave it all in the ring. Ward, Gatti, Chico... these cats just go out there and bang, and get up when you think they can't, and keep punching when they shouldn't be able to.

And even the older great fighters, like Frazier, Ali, Hagler, Hearns, Foreman... these guys fought like that, so it's not a matter of skill- it's how the guy fights when his eyes are closed up and he's exhausted and wants to die, but won't stop.

That's a far cry from Roy fighting bums during the second half of his career, or Floyd only fighting those one weight class or below and still refusing to go hard for the KO.

When you watch Round 10 of Castillo-Corrales, you know you got two guys that would rather die then give up- you don't see that often in life in general. When you do, it's something to be admired. When its on display in the ring, you're watching something holy.

    Tall poppy syndrome.

People see the best fighters in the world and instinctively want to discredit them so use any reason/meaning possible to do so. "You should be fighting someone better" without realising at the top level, remaining undefeated for five title fights is damn hard to do, let alone the amount of times Floyd has won/defended titles, or Jones Jr, or Hopkins - all guys accused of avoiding other fighters.

Business comes into it, sometimes you want to fight better fighters but the ability to do business is not there, Floyd has asked for Cotto and Mosley before, Joe asked for Hopkins, Jones Jr, Ottke before - then you've got the ridiculous belt situation and the fact that mandatories are by no means the best fighters in the division anymore.

People just don't have enough common sense to realise why some of these issues are in our sport.

Hey bro, you see Dawson last night? I think he keeps getting better every fight. He a fighter that applies to this thread, at least in the eyes of some "fans".

Good post. People seem to forget about these things. It's not always excuses, just reality.

Let Dawson defend his title against people other than Tarver and Johnson and we'll see whats what.

I will admit, his improvement in both fights indicates he learns quick, I thought he'd lose to Johnson second time up.

It's different for different fighters, but generally I think it's because they don't fight the fighters the fans want them to all the time. Sometimes that is fair enough, other times it's dead on.

We like to see fighters challenged. We all have different opinions on who will be a challenge to a certain fighter. Normally there is a consensus though - e.g. Loads of people think Mosley is PBF's biggest challenge right now because of his demolotion of Margarito. Add to this that he's fast, powerful, accurate, smart and arguably the second best in the division - it's more a case of WHY NOT make this happen?

It's understandable to take easier fights, but Calzaghe for instance, why wasn't he in the US fighting the likes of Hopkins, RJJ... hell, even Ottke much earlier than he did? Doens't matter why - you can argue it all you want. Point is he didn't and that's what people remember.

Also, there is the simple fact that the top guys in divisions just don't fight each other as much as fans would like. The systems in place allow for too much dodging and there is not nearly enough regulation to make the best fight the best. Instead you get people taking seemingly easier fights than what is truly out there to challenge them.
