Agreed....I also look at accomplishments, titles won, and comeptition, but its hard to argue against skills. A boxer usually beats a slugger, a slugger beats the swarmer, swarmer beats a boxer, etc. Styles make fights, but fighters make their legacy. A fighter that combines those skills and aforementioned accomplishments you did, they are pound forpound to me. For example Manny Pacquaio wouldn't be the fighter he is today if he didnt improve his technical flaws and stop relying so heavyily on a busy style speed and power. Now he is the total Package, skills, talent, and a good resume. Same can be said for Floyd they are the most complete fighters in boxing today.

No way...top 20. Tarver has been done since Hopkins spanked him and he needed to tries to beat Johnson. I don't see him as anything special. He is a good fighter but has no qualities that make him great.

His only good win is Adamek but come on how good is Adamek? Sure he just beat Golota but lets be honest Golotas best days are about 13 years behind him....
So that leaves you to wonder, especially when you consider Glenn Johnson arguably beat him in the first fight, sure he has wins over Tarver but Tarvers biggest stake is his wins over an old Roy Jones Jr...

    Dawson is not P4P

How are any of those Dawson;s fault?

He isnt linear b/c Erdei has shown an unwillingness to fight other top light heavyweights. He doesnt have the Ring belt b/c Hopkins has shown an unwillingness to fight young fighters aside from Pavlik (and for good reason, he only has a few fights left and he has to pick accordingly), and NO top fighter should be criticized for not unifying when the sanctioning bodies do their best not to let it happen.

In terms of skills Dawson is top 10. In terms of achievement he is not (10-20). He has only two fighters on his CV: Johnson (who is old but still seems to have something left - however, not a great win) and Adamek (who is a limited brawler about the same level as Danny Green and Briggs. Adamaek is probably a shade better than these two, but that isn't impressive. Cunningham is Adamake's best win and he was losing if not for the KDs and would probably lose a rematch. So all in all Adamek is not that good. Dawson needs Hopkins (old but still a better test that the Adameks etc. The best from the Super Six would also be very mouth watering for Dawson - if he can make 168. If will probably be difficult to make them change weight because they don't need to as the division is so deep.

The point is, it doesn't need to be Dawson's fault, because you don't automatically get a P4P spot with something needing to be your fault to lose it.

Most of what I mentioned is not Chad's fault (just like how he fights in a terrible division); but should he be getting more credit than the fighters who have done some of those things just because it's not? That's what doesn't make sense to me. It's OK to keep unified champs, lineal champs, Ring champions, and those with more defenses who've beaten higher rated fighters, out of the top 10 just because it's not Chad's fault he hasn't accomplished those things yet?

He'll never be the lineal champ because Erdei isn't coming out of Germany/Hungary to fight anyone of any significance ...

As far as him being the man, there's only on other person out there for him to fight and that is Bernard Hopkins, but its obvious that he's not going to get that fight either.

He's not quite there, partly because he beat a weight-drained Adamek on the night. Adamek ballooned up 24 pounds in his next fight, and today, just 2 years later, fought at 40+ pounds heavier than when he fought Chad.

Dawson is very close, but not quite there yet IMO.

My question remains: Even though the causes are outside of Dawson's control, is it fair to give him more credit (in the form of a higher P4P ranking) than those who have accomplished those things?

I don't believe "What if?" credit is fair in situations like that.

As it stands, I don't think he's more than a few good wins from cracking the P4P top 10 list as it is, but as of right now I can't rank him over fighters like Wlad, Haye, and John who have both accomplished more and done it on a global basis. It's not about punishing Chad- it's about rewarding the fighters who've done more so far.

What an imbecilic hater you are.

Adamek is not that good. Yet ESB voted his resume superior to that of Kessler, whom you nuthug to no end.

Guess Kessler is no good at all. :good

    Dawson dominates a weak division.
