It struck me watching the Haye Valuev fight Saturday that had he wanted to Haye could have frequently puched Valuev on the outside of the elbow whilst Valuev's arm was fully extended such was Haye's speed advantage. I appreciate hitting elbows is normally very painful for the fighter throwing but if the arm was fully extended at the time I don't think this would be true. The damage caused to the receiving fighter would be excruitiating after a few rounds. Without his jab what would Valuev have done? Firstly is there anything to say a fighter couldn't adopt these tactics (as in rule breaks)? Assuming there isn't does anybody remember a match up where this has happened (employed as a fight long tactic) and what was the outcome? Would love to see it in play to see how the receiving fighter adapted.
I think Rocky marciano did that in one of his fights where he pounded i guy arms so much that he damaged the guys arteries.
george foreman used to say that it hurt more to get pounded on the arms, shoulders, etc than a shot to the dome
Marciano vs LaStarza II. He completely ruined him as a fighter. Broke his blood vessels in the guys arms, he had to have surgery on his arms because of it.
