JMM has a right hand. He punished Pacman repeatedly despite being a fighter who struggled against Chris John, losty to Freddie Norwood and lost rounds to a couple of mediocre fighters. JMM is pretty clearly a lower calibre fighter than Pacman overall, but due to styles (the fact his right hand is a great punch) he was able to compete with Pacman and outbox him for the most part. Anyone who has seen the JMM - Pacman fights should be confident that Mayweather would be in his comfort zone against Pacman, just on the basis of his sharp right hand. Hatton showed what happens to fighters with pathetic right-hands. Cotto is left handed, not many lefted-haned orthodox fighters have great straight rights. Ronald Wright has a great and often over looked stright right. Though it lacked powered, is is laser accurate, just see the Mosley fights. It was even more effective than his jab in that one. Now the question How do you rate Cotto's right hand? Can you think of occasions when he has dominated fight with the right against quality opponenets. Roach alledgedly expects more switch hitting than usual form Cotto. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/sport/...ce-hit-cotto-will-revert-to-counter-punching/ The second question. Has anyone ever seen Pacman strugle against the left handed punches of a south paw or have seen Pacman given major problems by the left handed punches of anyone for that matter?
JMM also controls distance well. Cotto doesn't. Cotto has a pretty good right hand though. Its not his money punch but its better than Hatton's. Barrera and Cotto are similar in style. Barrera was also a left hand dominant orthodox fighter with a great jab and left hook to the body, but like Cotto he also had a very good right hand
I think Cotto has a good right hook and straight right. Cotto had some nice combinations vs Clottey and it seems hes been training more on the uppercut so we'll see
Cotto has a good right hand, good enough to give Pac hell. Cotto has a stronger right than the one that staggered Pac in the JMM fight. If Cotto can time his right well and start landing it, I don't see Pac lasting 9 rounds of course unless Pac isn't too bothered by it, then I'll be surprised.
Cotto has a very good right ask, Torres, Abdulaev, Mosely they will confirm. and tune in on 11/14/2009 only on HBO PPV, and you will see it on full display!!!
You failed to mention one big detail, which is what has made Cotto special and given him the ability to overcome adversity in most of his fights. When he gets hit he fires back, and usually, he gets the last punch. A good example of this was the Shane Mosley fight, when Mosley landed, Miguel answered back, sometimes with one, two or three punches more. On the OT topic, Cotto has a pretty good right that is straight and can be quick when he uses it that way. Look at the Shane Mosley fight to see how well he used it in that fight.
