I distinctly remember Ruslan Chagaev doing a far better job of beating Valuev only to be TKO'd by Wladimir.

Difference being Haye probably actually landed more punches and landed many more power punches. Haye might not have thrown much but i only remember 2 telling punches being landed on him. He chose a strategy to outbox and frustrate Valuev, he also only had 1 hand for the majority of the fight... seriously... what are you bitching about?
Not something you see very often in the HW division these days. Movement with the heavies these days is as rare as rocking horse ****. Only 2 fighters in the divisoon have good foot work and movement and that's Eddie chambers and Haye. Alot of people see Wlad as having good footwork and movement.... in this current crop he does but if you watch him and compare him to heavies of the 90's even... you see that really he is a bit of a plodder.
Chagaev also took many many more punches and had both hands available to him through out the 12 rounds.
Also i should clarify as i wasn't very specific... i meant Haye landed more punches than Valuev in the fight on Saturday. Didn't mean Haye landed more than Chagaev
This kind of annoys me. There aren't any accurate punch stats for this fight, but I'd be willing to bet that Valuev landed nearly twice as many punches as Haye, if not more. Just the ones Haye landed tended to be stronger punches.
Valev landed 2 half decent head shots throughout 12 rounds and landed 10-20 jabs to the chest... the rest hit thin air or gloves and arms. I would bet good money that Haye landed more
Throwing stats in the air tells one part of a story not all. Look at who he is fighting.......in fact id be interested to see the stats for JC Gomez fight who movement and speed troubled Vitali somewhat early on. Vitali is slowing down without a doubt, im watching the Lewis, Johnson, sanders and Williams fight and he isnt as dynamic. The thing is, he is a class above so he the flaws can be hidden easily. Make no mistake Vitali fighting David Haye will be the best opponent he has faced in his comeback and the best since Lennox Lewis and prime Chris Byrd. The Klitshcko's and Valuev are two different animals. Valuev was so slow he could not even hit Haye. The Klitschko's will be able to hit him especially Wlad. Valuev could not test the chin or stamina. The Klitschko's will give him a ougher fight and hit him more more likley to test his chin and stamina. Look at the last guy to beat Wlad it was Brewster. To me the win was a fluke as he mysteriously ran out of gas suddenly at the end of the fifth. I dont know why he did if he was sick or undertrained or something else, I never believed the poison accusations but that said Brewster had to take one hell of a beating to win the fight. 4 and a half rounds of hell and he saw the canvas the only time in his career. Vitali last lost to the best heavyweight of the era Lewis in a shootout where Vitali was winning and beating the crap out of Lewis and taking Lennox's uppercut with a smile and unmoved. Maybe Haye can beat them but to say smoke easily is nuts.
