I know it's a year late to be asking this question, but has anyone ever come across the judges' scoring for Vladimir Klitschko KO11 Tony Thomspon? I'm wondering what the scorecards looked like after ten rounds. I have never seen any data published anywhere about the cards. It would be interesting to know how many rounds Thompson took...he did a pretty good job for six rounds.
I think Lederman had him winning 1 or 2 of the earilier rounds. I had him winning the first and maybe the 3rd or 4th. I cant remember I have watched it in awhile. Just cause he didn't win many rounds doesn't mean he looked bad either; it is just Wladimir looked better.
I agree. The point is that Thompson made many of those first six rounds competitive, even if he was losing. It would be interesting to see how many rounds the judges gave him. I wonder why the scores were never made public.
I doubt he won many b/c Wlad was landing so many right hands. I give Tony credit b/c most heavyweights can't take that many hard right hands.
Thompson probably won a round which was quite good having in mind that it is very difficult to win a round against Wladimir.
I think I gave him about a round. I don't know for the life of me how the punchstats were so even, or were they even slightly in Thompson's favour? He must've been throwing a ton of shots in the clinch or something, if those count. Wlad was clearly the one landing the clean punches.
Thompson did quite well. At least better than most of Wladimir´s other victims in the last couple of years. :
I think you are correct about the punch stats. The stats tend to include soft body punches -- really taps and slaps -- in the clinches. What's most amazing is that these shots are often recorded as "power punches".
Thompson is a good fundamental fighter. I just looked him up and he has only had one fight since Wlad and hasnt been active in over 8 months. It would be a shame if we didnt hear from him again he is a very good boxer.
When I watched the fight, I would have given Thomson 1, maybe 2 of the first 6 rounds. After that he was awful, and was a sitting duck from about Round 6 on. He was just standing there with his gloves as earmuffs barely moving, and Wlad was just pitty patting away. I couldn't believe he made it to 11, he looked like he wanted to finish at about 9, but Wlad hadn't really hit him enough to stop him. Can't believe people are saying he fought well. I thought Thomson did well early, then stopped. Couple of good body shots early pinned Wlad back. After that, nothing. Even Thomsons trainer agreed with me when they showed his comments between rounds.
That may be the last time Wlad's even lost a round,so at least Tony's got that going for his performance that night.
