Since someone else's thread couldn't be bothered posting the entire article since it might not fit the hate: http://www.vindy.com/news/2009/nov/10/pavlik-fights-at-ysu-dec-19/ Chances haters will read it? 0%. It is too long for the typical hater to be bothered with. :nut
this may be a blessing in disguise. get some rounds in at home, knock the rust off. yeah that little part about the sanctioning bodies telling him to get in the ring or else won't fit the hate, but what can you do? all this hate will make it that much sweeter when he gets back to knocking people out and shutting people up.
I'll give Kelly the benefit of the doubt. However, that article clearly states that Pavlik didn't want to fight until January or February and that he's only fighting in Dec. because he doesn't want to get stripped. This of course contradicts statements by Pavlik fans that Pavlik wanted to move the Williams fight to Dec 19th. According to the article, he was only recently willing to fight in December. Another thing, I have no problem with Loew stating he won't let his fighter fight Williams at less than 100%. However, why let him fight at all at less than 100%? That seems foolish to me.
My personal opinion other than stating the rather odd timing of the fight, that he should't fight until he's 100% absolutely ready, meaing he spent a few weeks of light training in the gym without any promlems. When Jack Loew said he'd never allow Kelly to enter the ring if not 100% I actually agreed with him, and this just doesn't sound good. What is your opinion on this? Shouldn't he simply take the year off? Isn't this fight too soon?
I stated up front when Kelly wanted the two week postponement I didn't think that would be enough. That was from personal experience with losing flexibility in a finger. My son went through the same thing. This content is protected
it seems it is fighting too soon but he said he didnt want to be stripped. i admire that he wants to lose the belts in the ring instead of outside the ring...but damn...i dunno. i dunno how bad or good of shape he's gonna be in when the 19th rolls around. 80-90% of pav can probably beat this guy so hopefully he can just get some rounds in, knock off some rust, and keep the sanctioning bodies off his back and get back to 100% physically for the new year. i got my fingers crossed but im nervous. he's good for boxing regardless of what the haters say and it would be terrible if something bad came of this.
That's fine, but the article states that he wanted to fight in Jan. or Feb. and is only fighting in Dec. the orgs are threatening to strip him. This contradicts your statement.
Originally, they wanted the two week postponement. However, he still can't fully bend his finger, so Jan or Feb would have given him a safe cushion. The WBC said he needed to defend SOON. He chose to defend it now.
Again, you can find my previous posts saying I didn't think the 2 weeks (Dec) was doable given my personal experience. I said that the day he requested the 2 week delay. The situation is what it is. I don't see any reason to doubt this article. Fight or be stripped. His choice to make.
Of all the past actions, this sounds the most odd. How can he return in December if he cancelled a December fight? He should NOT fight until things are smooth in camp, and I never blamed Kelly for not fighting in the recovery period. Health is the most important thing, I thought Loew learnt that by now. But fighting a 12 round Championship fight just days after the original date - it just doesn't make any sense. No logic. Is the WBC pressure really that big? The last time I checked Sebastian Zbik was the interim champ, so if there is a mandatory fight, that is Zbik. **** it, if that's the price to pay, I'd rather see 100% healthy Pavlik vs. Zbik in January and Pavlik-Williams a little later next year than entering this fight with all the quesiton marks and the next possible pull-out.
So, if those in doubt feel very vinidicated after this latest, stinky development, that makes them a "hater". Bottom line. Pavlik was supposedly in a life and death struggle with this staph infection. Now, apparently hiding behind semantics, he's all set to defend against a much lower tier non-puncher who they recently rescused off of some desert island. Pavlik is coming apart. The stories and excuses are increasingly transparent. Everything we ever wanted from him as middleweight champ, that we didn't get, we've gotten from Carl Froch...despite his faults and all of the mounting criticism. Here's the thing though, Froch WILL almost certainly lose - but he'll do it against another worthy, world-class fighter. I am now CERTAIN Team Pavlik never wanted anything to do with Williams, Mora and Arthur. :good
