I like Saad M. as much as anyone did, but the writing was on the wall for Saad in 1981......... 175 was killing him and he was severly drained when he was brutally mauled to death by Qawi on national TV........... Peace....... MR.BILL In '82 I think Saad made a quick comeback by hammering Pete MacIntyre on TV that set-up another massacre loss to Qawi in the summer of '82.......... After the second loss to Qawi, it just got ugly for Saad M.
The only choking Qawi did was on Spinks left hand. Double and triple jabs, uppercuts, and hooks all night. Spinks moved alot but he set down on a lot of heavy punches in that fight.................Qawi fought timid? That doesn't make any sense. When did he ever fight timid? Spinks made him timid.
Be as that may be true, still, Qawi's corner late in the fight was asking Dwight what was wrong and why he lacked firepower....... Qawi didn't really respond all that well to his corner's questions...... Qawi was timid, and Qawi fought like he was not interested in getting hit by Spinks...... Qawi had to know deep down that he was behind on the cards going into the championship rds..... :hey MR.BILL:admin
On both fighters best days, Eddie handles Dwight in a very tough fight. Braxton is tought as nails, but muhamed had a much better skill set and hit harder than Dwight. Braxton would have to respect Eddie and not just bull his way in. Forcing Eddie to fight will be Dwights undoing.
Styles make fights............. Qawi beat on James Scott while doing time as a sparring partner and as a pro fighter........... Qawi had Scott's number.......... Yet, I have Scott systematically out-working Muhammad over 10 rds from a late 1970s televised fight................. Scott was rugged and in great shape, but also mechanical in his style........ Muhammad seemingly couldn't cope with Scott's strength.......... I gotta favor Qawi to out-work Muhammad, as well......... I have Qawi's '86 title defense at 190 lbs. over a lifeless Leon Spinks............. Spinks was too light at 190 and Qawi ate him alive on ABC TV.......... MR.BILL
Qawi-Leon Spinks was horrible to watch. Spinks tried hard but he was slow and his punches had absolutely nothing on them.Qawi spent half the fight laughing at Leon's pitiful attacks and the other half tearing him apart. Qawi was a hard ******* in the ring.
Leon Spinks supposedly had to drop "5" pounds on the day of the fight against Qawi in order to make 190.......... Team Spinks claimed they were initially informed that 195 was gonna be the set weight, when in fact 190 was the limit........ Leon was a zombie at 190 pounds........ Qawi landed the kitchen sink and the bar of soap on Spinks' head in that fight............ MR.BILL
Who's talking perceived greatness career? You basically said Mustafa had bugger all power and were so far wrong it's laughable. You're running away from the topic, not that i'd blame you. Well didn't peer pressure swamp you on that one. Gone from worth nightmare to not sure I'm not even convinced you've witnessed Monzon at length, but then again i doubt it'd matter.
Nobodies nuthugging or mistaking anyone for Superman, but the plain fact is the guy had power to burn and you lacked either the insight or impartibility to recognise and admit it.
Don't waste your time trying to convince those without the experience, the means or the open-mindedness. Blinders are big business in this sport. You and I know the score. :good
F.F.Sakes................... I've prolly seen more of them guys then 99% of the Jackass' who post on the Classic section of the forum......... I've got film footage up the ass and I have reviewed through all of it over the yrs......... Do I play favorites? Of course I do, just like everybody else has / does........ But don't cry me a river that Eddie M. Muhammad is not the greatest 175 pounder over the last 35 yrs, cuz he is and was NOT!!! The Goddamn topic of this thread is simply "Qawi vs. Muhammad." Who wins? My pick is Qawi......... I've watched them both fight, amongst other contenders from that era as well.......... I NEVER SAID that E.M.Muhammad sucked ass or couldn't box for ****, I said **** HIM! Cuz I never really cared for his style or his belief from some of his OWN CLAIMS that he felt he was the best of the lot from the 70s and 80s........ E.M.Muhammad, in my opinion, was NOT the best 175 pounder of that era........... BUT! Sure he had skills and was a solid fighter / boxer who contended and even won the WBA title for a brief stitch in time............. WTF is so hard to digest and comprehend there??? I liked Dwight M. Qawi the moment I laid my eyes on that dude.......... He was short, compact, explosive, aggressive and pretty powerful..... For a guy 5' 7" tall and a ripped 175 with merely prison amateur experience, Qawi did rather well.... In fact, it was incredible.... 2 world titles at 175 / 190 pounds in the 1980s........... Qawi's war with Evan Holy in Atlanta back in '86 is epic with no doubt........ Yes, the rematch of 1987 sucked for Qawi.......... We all know that........ I also never forgave E.M.Muhammad after his 1983 fiasco with the scale and Michael Spinks that was set for HBO in the summer.............. Muhammad can whine all he wants to, but the scale was fine and accurate........ Spinks NEVER had trouble making weight and he made his weight; Eddie M. Muhammad did not...... Then Muhammad REFUSED to sweat off 2 1/2 pounds to make the weight so the fight could take place....... Team Spinks did the right thing by balking and refusing a "NON-TITLE" offer of a mere 10 rounder..... That was bollocks......... SO! In my book, ther best 175 pounders since Bob Foster left the scene in 1974 would have to be "Spinks, Jones, Qawi, Hill & Galindez." NOW! Of course that too is just a matter of opinion....... Hell, I probably have left a couple of goodies out, too........ We'll see.............. Peace............. MR.BILL:bbbthumbsup:hat:shock: USA
Also, I try hard NOT to come off as an intellectual bull**** artist who merely goes on a thread to just hear himself talk smack........... I do enough of that already..... Mostly for fun and excitement....... I like to rock the boat here and there at times......... It keeps things from turning stale with the S.O.S. that keeps flowing down the pike.......... I hate that......... Now, I've boxed, watched, listened, learned and taped all kinds of things about the sport, business or racket by paying attention for well over 30 yrs now.......... I can assure all the detractors that I did NOT just come wandering in from the Goddamn cotton fields looking for some water........ Cheers.......... MR.BILL
Hours later, again, nobody in sight....... WTF? Anyway, I have Gregory's / Muhammad's 1978 "Rahway" fight with James Scott going on........ E.M.M. looks in good shape at 177 pounds, but Scott is chisled at 176...... E.M.M. is trying to be slick and cute in there, but the rugged brawler James Scott is always pressing the issue.......... E.M.M. has a serious welt under his left eye, but hanging tough.......... Scott at age 33 is in amazing physical shape......... According to sources, Jailbird Scott was paroled from prison in 2005 for the murder of a dope dealer in the 70s during a robbery / theft........... Scott, born 1947, is now age 62.......... I'm curious if he's still rock hard or is he now pot-bellied.?.? MR.BILL
