Sugar Ray Leonard-Marvin Hagler a clear win for Hagler

Hagler did win that fight, 115-113, and the whole world knows it.

A fallacy, how can someone win "clearly" if one round difference makes it a draw?!?!

And the TS said clear...not close but clear.

 

They can win clearly because it's a round-by-round, ten-point-must system. If there are 7 clear/indisputable rounds for one guy and 5 clear/indisputable rounds for another, it's close but clear.

A 118-110 fight can actually be much closer than a 115-113, if the ten rounds won by the victor in the former are all close rounds and the seven rounds won by victor in the latter are all dominant, clear rounds.

This is pretty simple logic.

 

There wasn't even 6 clear rounds for any fighter in that fight...no way was there 7!!!!

 

Hagler did not win 7 rounds. Draw at best and that's coming from someone who has repeatedly tried to find any reason to score rounds in his favor.

 

I watched it a few months back..I gave it to SRL something like 115-113

 

i gave 6 rds to marvin,5 to ray with one even.

 

I had Hagler winning last time I watched it

By trying to steal rounds with his 20 second shoeshine.
That type of punchingsucks.
They have no power and have little effect on the other guy.
Besides the fact that Hagler blocked and slipped most of those punches.
This fight was stolen from Marvin Hagler who was definately the Boss and in total control

 

I had Leonard winning cleanly. Marvin was a little flat for this fight. He had not fought in over a year, and before that he only fought once since Hearns. So he fought only once since Hearns leading into the Leonard fight. So if you compare fighting only once in 2 years since Hearns, Hagler before Hearns fought 4 times in the 2 years before Hearns. Big difference.

 

It could have been the other way, Hagler mixed his stance up so much but I cant recall who was calling the fight (maybe Pacheco) who was bewildered why Hagler was fighting southpaw or orthodox like you said

 

I was a very young pup at the time, and wanted Leonard to win (purely because Hagler beat Hearns, my favourite), and thought he did. Was overly impressed with the round stealing.

My old man watched it too, and was convinced Hagler was jobbed. Said Hagler completely controlled the fight, coming forward the whole night, and nothing Leonard did had any impact on Hagler.

Watched it again a couple of years ago. Was close, think Hagler made a monumental mistake going orthodox. Trying to prove he could box with Leonard, when he should have just fought his own way.
