Cotto Is Not The Same Since Margarito??

SR, I have Mosley complete career set on crystal clear DVD and he has done that in alot of his fights, actually almost all of them. It's just something he does.

 

This is similar to what I see in him now. I've watched the Clottey fight several times this week. I don't see him having trouble taking punches now, his timing is still excellent, if not better.

Clottey is difficult for anyone. I rated him higher than a lot of people did before that fight though.

I think when you say he's a bit "stiff", that's about all that stuck out to me. That's a good way to describe it. Could be that he was just being cautious and that why it seems that way.

The more Cotto fights I rewatch, the more I see Cotto's timing of Pac as the major factor in this fight. People keep talking about the speed of Pac non-stop, but IMO, Cotto won't have any trouble w/ it.

I don't see Pac being the fastest fighter @ 147. He is still fast, but his recent opponents were slow as hell too.

Clottey is a big, skilled WW, w/ a very difficult shell to get through. I think Cotto did well. People can't expect him to open it up against Clottey like he did w/ the easy-to-hit Margarito.

I think people had it in their heads Cotto was probably damaged before the Clottey fight ever happened, and so they saw what they were expecting. Which may not be exactly accurate of what was really going on.

 

I think the Mosley having an off-night talk is exaggerated. Its easy to look good (Margarito fight) when your opponent isn't putting you off your game. Stylistically i think Mosley couldn't believe how easily he could tee off on Margo, and that just lit a fire under his arse to let his hands go (although its interesting to note that Mosley threw just as many punches per round in the Cotto fight).

Cotto's timing and countering took Mosley off his game and he was clearly frustrated with it. Mosley landed 50% of his power shots and hit Cotto flush throughout the fight with his right hand, which had limited effect. It isn't as though Mosley couldn't get off, he was, it just wasn't doing much, and he was being hit back in return (unlike the Margarito fight).

Everyone said the same thing about the fight against Mayorga, disregarding obvious factors (i was guilty of it as well) like the huge weight advantage Mayorga had, and then Mosley whooped Margarito's ass.

It certainly wasn't peak Mosley but i don't really believe in making excuses for fighters who are perfectly fit losing fights. Cotto fought a very good fight and put Mosley off his game, every time Mosley got a roll on Cotto responded impressively (see round 11, one of Cotto's better rounds fought in his career).

 

And Mosley was also daydreaming in his fights with Vernon and Winky when he was down on the cards and Jack Mosley sucks as a trainer, he's almost as clueless as Papa Trinidad when his fighter is down on the cards.

The real problem with Shane that night is that he thought Cotto was going to brawl with him like Cotto did in the Zab fight and he thought Cotto was one dimensional also. So Mosley was in a fight that he wasn't prepared for because he assumed it was going to be a certain way.

 

The man just fought Clotty by far one of the most dangerous fighters at 147 and at 154 ..I think he;s over the Margarito fight ..

 

How the hell is Clottey one of the most dangerous fighters at 154?

 

I always maintained that Clottey would be a tough fight for Miguel. It's amazing though how much more praise people on this board(especially Cotto fans) heap on Clottey since that fight. Before the fight the general consensus was that he had no power, no stamina, and would be easily outboxed by Cotto.

 

Who's as dangerous of an opponent in those weight classes outside of PW ?

 

I think Cotto has lost a lot of the aggression he had prior to the Margarito fight. He's much more hesitant to step on the gas than he used to be. I also think his confidence isn't quite the same.

I like Cotto but I don't think he's quite what he once was.

 

Plenty of people favoured Clottey to beat Cotto.

 

He's never even fought at 154. Santos, Martinez, Angulo, and Kirkland(when he gets paroled) are all more dangerous than Clottey. Clottey is a good fighter, but he's more of a stepping stone rather than a championship level fighter. Clottey will serve as a good test for many fighters, but he'll almost always come up short against top level talent.

 

So people are just dismising the Clotty win and are still on the Margarito loss ?? I can't wait for the 14th !!Cotto is going to reassure the boxing public why he is not to be slept on !!
