How come nearly all of the past great mexican fighters had none or very lttle amature

Same reason they have 1000 professional fights. They learn as pros. Did the hard way. No good amatuer programs in Mexico, just pro fights.

 

Elementary........... Mexican gym wars are legendary............ Plus, a Mexican / Spanish fighter usually starts training hard in the gym by age 13 or 14...... Money, or the NEED for cash, is also a factor for going pro quickly........... Mexican / Spanish fighters come from a different culture..... Very few Mexican fighters come up spoiled with a silver spoon....... The need for money and to provide for a family is quite pronounced and apparent............ Nuff said there..........

Because they were POOR.

Probably because of the general poverty, and the chance, even minus poverty, for a young fighter to make some bucks doning something natural, something in the blood, something MACHO, and getting paid for it (!) involving a sport that's so close to the heart of the average Mexican...to their credit even today, and much more so than in America, where football rules mostly.

 

Need the money I'd guess.

Yeah, As in the case of Pipino Cuevas, Turned Pro at 14 & was fighting full grown men at that age. Won the WBA Championship at 18.

 

Is this the case in Puerto Rico? or is there a better Amatuer system over there? Some of the cases I remember are Benitez fighting young. & Camacho won the Championship at a young age.

 

I have so much respect and admiration when it comes to this subject. The answer to the thread is usually because they were poor as ****.

 

I'm not sure how old he was when he turned pro, but he beat WBA Jr. Welterweight Champion Antonio Cervantes at the tender age of Seventeen. Wasn't Juanma Lopez an accomplished Amatuer?
