Jean's straight right is pretty wicked too. I'd imagine that he'd make things interesting by landing that one a few times.
I personally don't like the way he throws his right hand, it's not straight down the pipe. I like his left hook because he seems to throw it naturally, it's fluid and powerful also.
Froch won a close decision, the scores may look wide but that's because it was in Nottingham. Also Pascal was hitting Froch whenever he wanted early on and Froch often looked off balance and uncoordinated. I also think Jean has improved since.
I'm not disagreeing with any of your statements here, I just wanted to give my 2 cents on the upcoming double standard before it happens. :good Which upcoming double standard, you might be asking? This one: Ever since the Dirrell fight, I think Froch has taken a bit too much **** to the point where his victories that are solid get minimal credit. And, now that HBO's behind him, a victory over Pascal will be made out to be an awesome one for Dawson because it's in HBO's best financial interest to get the highest ranking possible for Dawson so they get a decent return on their investment in him.
Definetly, Chad is in danger of becoming like Jermaine Taylor and a win over Pascal would be blown up by HBO. Froch is getting discredited alot, it's just that I like Pascal and Froch, who has seemingly little talent beat him and I can't seem to wrap my head around why.
I had it that way too, it just looked so easy at first and then Pascal got sloppy, he sort of reminds me of Berto in that way.
Dawson and Taylor have nothing in common... Dawson hasnt been hyped...yet he handled Ademek, beat Tarver twice...and Johnson twice and he has gotten all tomato cans out of there pretty quickly. Taylor only ever had two wins over Hopkins...
Pascal can be outboxed. I hear when Froch sparred him he was in total control, when he had his "non-war brain activated" for a change. Dawson is a very dull, but well balanced and skillful fighter. I'd expect 6 rounds to be close and 6 rounds to be definitely in Dawson's favour. Pascal would need to bang him out of there, which is a possibility, but it's probably unlikely.
I can't speak entirely for him, but I think Flo meant the comparison in terms of both guys being HBO's project to market into the "next big thing/crossover star", built off the backs of old (but name) opponents. If I I read it right, I agree with him. Listening to the commentary on Dawson-Johnson II, it's pretty clear pushing Chad is a big priority for them- which is no surprise given what they've invested. It should also be noted that the "only" guy Taylor beat twice absolutely dismantled 2 out of Chad's best 3 opponents.
Hopkins destroying Johnson 15+ years ago at middleweight means NOTHING at this point. Johnson wasn't even close to being the same fighter back then. Anyway, to answer the question, there might be a few close rounds, but Dawson would pretty well blow him out. Pascal's never looked good against a tall boxer (Froch brawled in their fight, and may have been better off trying to box). It's not as if Pascal looked that spectacular against the dessicated corpse of Silvio Branco. And I'm not sure Pascal has even faced a southpaw (if he has, it was a pretty low level fighter).
It would be entertaining at times, but Dawson is a far superior boxer. If Pascal can force Chad into a brawl he might have a chance, but Dawson seems less likely to let that happen these days. He's getting better each fight. Still, I would not mind seeing this fight.
