I have a strong suspicion that you know very little of Robinson, Louis, Pep or Armstrong.

They appeared above Duran on somebody's list (and very possibly, rightly so)

And putting Spinks, Holyfield, Hagler and Benitez in there just further illustrates your overall grasp of who's who in the sport.

That you would rank Benitez (a great fighter, I agree) above Duran tells me everything I need to know here.

I'm a fan of Pac, and earlier in the thread, stated that, as he is a work in progress, he might eventually surpass Duran.

But to attempt to denigrate Duran's place by placing him lower than some of the names you came up with, just illustrates your lack of familiarity with his and their careers.

Right now Manny. If Duran starts a comeback, he might close the gap.

you guys think because Tommy was 6-1 that he was a naturally big guy. Who is the one who went up to 250 walking around weight? Tommy at the time couldn't top 180. When he went to cruiserweight he had to start eating more. Tommy was a naturally smaller guy if you look at him next to Virgil Hill, but he still managed to win. You guys are comfusing height and size. Tyson was 5-10 or 11 and Hearns was 6-1.. Are you telling me Hearns was bigger? Duran now probably tips the scales at 260

Roberto Duran, and it's not close. Duran jumped the weights perhaps even more impressively than Pacquiao, and holds a win over prime Ray Leonard, who'll probably be remembered as the second greatest 147lbs to have ever put on a pair of gloves. Only Ray Robinson is ahead of him, but for my money, a h2h match-up between the Sugars would be strikingly even. That's a testament to just how good of a win it was in Montreal. The best ever.

He did not choose to brawl , Duran made that choice for him. Loenard was getting out boxed on the out dside as well. Excelent use of fients by Duran.

Who doesn't know about Robinson, and you tell me who did Robinson beat? Which Hall of famers? More than Duran did moving up? yes easily. You tell me why Duran is so great. You guys answer questions by asking me questions. That doesn't make Duran great. Louis had so many title defenses, which were 17 more than Duran had. Just on that.
I think Evander Holyfield is underrated in boxing. Just discounting it shows how you just take the typical opinion of everyone else. Everyone says Duran is top 5 ever, you go along with it. I do not. Evander was in a division where everyone was bigger. Even his first heavyweight fight with Dokes was a war. How many cruiserweights could have had a war with a big man like Dokes in thier first fight? Not Haye. Spinks? Spinks beat Holmes. A great and then again, and he beat Qawi and Muhammad,Lopez,Johnson and dominated. I mean me putting Spinks there is a reach in a way, but the fact is he did the same thing Duran did and almost against better competition. His collapse at the hands of Tyson was not unlike Duran to Thomas Hearns. As for Spinks beating Holmes in 1984, Holmes then was an experienced man, not an inexperienced Leonard who was 6 months into his reign. That win over Leonard is overrated. Ray admits Duran got to his head, but Ray gathered himself and won the rematch and rubbermatch later.
And then Wilfred. Benitez beat Duran cleanly and clearly. Benitez won his first title at 140 just one division about Duran. He beat Cervantes, who easily beat Dejesus-who was Duran's best competition at lightweight. Just makes clear opposition of Wilfred. And look at Wilfred's opposition . Bruce Curry, Cervantes, Randy Shields,Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, Carlos Palomino, Harold Weston etc. The only reason Benitez does not get credit is because he was stopped by Leonard and did not beat him, but his resume is just as good as Duran and he faired better than Duran vs. the legends. He went the full 15 with Hearns, Duran was stopped in 2. I am bringing up points and facts here, not just saying Duran is great because he beat Leonard once, yet lost the next two which are somehow forgotten.
As a matter fact, you say that me denigrating Duran shows how I am not familiar with those names. I just showed you by memory what I know, yet the fact is you people do not give me any facts on why Duran deserves top 5 ATG? Why? Still the same stuff. I am being honest. I am not going to go by the same criteria everyone else does. I was a young kid watching Duran tear through guys at lightweight. My dad would say wow he is something special. I thought yeah he is. Then later I see him lose to the legends and people say, well he moved up in weight (although all great fighters moved up and didn't get excuses). I then looked at his record and saw his lightweight reign very mediocre. So how should you rate a great? By how he does with other greats. And Duran is factually 1-5 (0) against the greats of the 1980's. So how is that top 5 ever? I am just bringing up facts. I have thought this for years. Not just this year.

I voted for Duran. Mainly because pac is not done yet, with only a year or two left pac's quality of opposition and results in future fights will determine if he surpasses duran or not.

Duran beating Sugar Ray Leonard is quite the achievement considering SRL was in his prime.
