The greatest defensive fighter was Willie Pep. I would only rate the likes of Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong and Harry Greb over him who were mainly known for their great offense or all-around game.

The best defense? Possibly Nicolino Locche. But he wasn't a greater fighter than Pep in my view.

Either way, looks like an Italian's going to win (Locche has Sardinian roots).

Incidentally Locche may have been the worst pure boxer of all the defensive specialists, which speaks even more for how tough he was to hit.

Nice call with Hugo Corro...often disparaged and lowrated...I remain a fan, however brief his title reign was.

Pretty sure his post was tongue in cheek.

    It was indeed.

Though to be fair to Corro, despite my not being a fan of him, he was a few notches better than those other two.

I confess to being a fan of Corro's...which puts me in a minority of 1 apparently.

Jorge Arce. Faceblocking at its best.

yeh your right there, in the ring he was almsot joking around like he was taking the **** out of the guy.

I voted Locche just such a great defence he relied on it and some of the stuff he did is simply amazing but alot of his main things he did was very simple. For example he bent his knees and rolled into his opponents chest and this made him impossible to hit clean.

I have before said Pep but i think Locche is better now but Pep was better all round. In defence i think he was more well rounded also in terms of his foot movement and head movemnt were more of the same high level. But Locche's parrying and head movement is much more impressive although it really is just 1 aspect of defence.
