from the Haye - Valuev fight?

I usually have to end up watching these late night/early morning bills by myself or else its just me and a mate of mine who is also into boxing.

But tonight there is gonna be 6 or 7 of us there to watch the Pac-Cotto fight; this is a direct result of the fight last week, which had the same 6 or 7 there.

Also, Sky seem to be jumping on board with a lot of advertising for the fight tonight.

Anyone notice anything similar happening with their circle?:think

So this is a result of David Haye's negative performance against "The Beast"..? Shut Up..

This fight has been hyped for months, its all down to Floyd Mayweather coming back from semi-retirement. Which made this fights at welterweight much bigger, and have more magnitude.

    David Haye vs "The Beast"..?

    Please..

As ever, you're talking pish. Pac's a big name for the way he took Hatton out. The fight the other week has helped people to realise that there are big fights and they are good to talk about.

    it's all connected.

    Wait a minute..

Manny Pac vs Cotto has been hyped since Floyd Mayweathers return..

    Why..?

Because the winner, could possible face Floyd Mayweather. Whats the problem, what are you disagreeing with..?

This fight was hyped long before..

    David Haye vs "The Beast"

Long before...! one of the most negative world title bouts of the past 20 years.

    Yes, he is talking pish.

I've not had 6/7 mates sitting around watching a fight until last week, and that was for a fight that was on at a normal hour. I can guarantee they wouldn't be watching this fight if it hadn't been for the fight last week. They would ask questions, enquiring who I thought would win, but they wouldn't have stayed up to 4.00 o'clock or whatever to watch the fight. They might have just watched the day after replay....at a push.

    Good news.:D

it was hyped because it's an amazing fight. Mayweather isn't relevant to this fight.

    I'm not talking ****, I'm talking facts.

If your gonna bring up, the most negative heavyweight title championship fight.............of the past 20 years. And claim that, it has made this Pacman vs Cotto fight even bigger...

Your the guy who is talking ****...!

The general public is more educated on the welterweight division than any other. Because of Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Manny Pac. People actually have a picture of what the land scape is down there....

A when Floyd Mayweather.."The Biggest Athlete in this sport" returned.........

Thats when the knock on affect happened, anybody who is mentioned along side him, as a possible threat or opponent is hyped up and brought to the front of the sport.

This fight was massive long before November 7th..

So stop talking ****, and shut the **** up...

About David Haye vs "The beast"...fight.

The fight was ****, and David Haye talked a good one, but produced a bad one.

Mayweather is'nt relevant to this fight..?

    Are you ok mate..?

    Is everything alright..?

Mayweather is relevant to this fight, because the winner of this fight. Could fight Floyd Mayweather in a even bigger fight, everybody in the sport of boxing knows this, and everyone here knows this too...........!

Part of the reason it is being hyped is definately due to the possible ramifications with a Mayweather fight afterwards. However, to suggest this isn't a big fight in its own right and that the Haye fight last week added nothing to the viewing numbers we will see tonight is also pretty silly.

You may not of found the Valuev fight exciting but the hype would have brought back in many previous boxing fans as well as casuals.

Listen Flint, no need to get so aggressive.

I'm just saying that my mates wouldn't all be around watching the fight tonight if it hadn't been for last weeks fight. They're knowledge of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pac is very limited, regardless of how good they are. They know the names, following the Hatton fights, but they wouldn't have stayed up to watch the fight tonight if it hadn't been for last weeks fight. Thats just the reality of the situation with me. All the coverage in the papers and on TV for the Haye fight got all my mates interested, and now they're hanging around for a bit to get a taste of some really big world title action in the Pac-Cotto fight.

I agree with the thread starting point. Had a few mates, who know i like boxing, begin talking to me and asking where i was watching the haye fight. Now the same group want to come to mine to watch the cotto/pac fight - which i was originally going to watch with a close friend and boxing fan. The worst thing is (and im not a snob at all - im for more boxing publicity) they have started talking like they have been following the sport for ages. One lad asked me 'is cotto the one Hatton knocked out with a body shot?' :/

I find a lot of casuals were more impressed with the Haye fight than you'd think - I feared people might find it dull but by and large they were impressed, albeit for different reasons to me - I liked it as an excellent defensive performance, whereas they - not knowing Valuev's past form - were astounded by the fact that Haye could overcome the size difference full stop.

Yeah, this is a problem. Gonna be a lot of eye-rolling from myself tonight. But **** it, these boys have gotta start somewhere. Hopefully it will be a cracking fight tonight, and they'll get more interested in the sport and expand their base of knowledge.
