Yet, I recall that Ray Leonard was absolutely beloved and... he was all of those things. But he also had charisma and, though he boasted, he almost always backed it up.

Don't cloud the issue with race. People dislike Floyd because he's a cry-baby with a bad attitude, nothing to do with his background.

Leonard wasn't a trash talker, would you agree? Muhammad Ali was hated and he was a big trash talker. If PBF was white people would love him. They would say he just have passion for the sport. Please don't try deny that racism has a role in the hatred of PBF.

sorry mate, dont think his race effects why hes disliked much, sure there wil be some people who dislike him cause hes black but no one cares what a biggot thinks anyway. Jealousy will come into it somewhat but i think he just loves himself alittle too much and is a little deluded. most people dont even have PBF breaking into the top 20/30 ATGs nevermind being no 1.

Ive got no qualms about people who believe hes the best of this era as there is a good argument that his resume is the best/one of the best of the last 10/15 years. He should fight cotto, pac, mosley and possibly move up to middleweight and win a title before he has an argument to be GOAT.

The guy in your avatar is a mediocre boxer who was gifted a decision against Clottey and if not for early hype wouldnt be getting knocked out by manny in 5,

Thats more real then anything you just said.

I dont think racism is part of it. subconciously alot of the hate is probably racial. But most of the hate(more people like Floyd then hate him) is because of his fighting style and jealousy.

Ray was incredibly cocky and, on occasion, could be dismissive of his opponents.

The difference is that a) he fought the best, and b) he usually beat them.

Racism has nothing to do with the dislike of Floyd. He is the reason he is disliked, for being a cherry picking, risk averse cry baby.

Ali was hated less for his colour, and more for the fact he was a member of what was perceived as a militant muslim brotherhood, and then refused to serve his country in Vietnam.

Also, that was the 60s, at the peak of the civil rights movement. Floyd's the best paid boxer in the game today, I'd bet. If the racism was so endemic, that wouldn't be happening. The premier fighters throughout history have generally been black.

Anyway, what proof - actual proof - do you have that Floyd is criticised simply because he is black?

Dirrell is like Clottey. Got jobbed on the other guys home turf. Cotto and Froch are the same in that their luck is going to run out in their next fights. Both early stoppages.

Sure... but that has **** all to do with the subject at hand. I'm quite aware of Cotto's position in the sport historically - he's a good fighter, but not ATG material. But, unlike Mayweather, he at least wants to challenge himself.

Don't see Mayweather being too keen to fight Clottey, Margarito, Manny, Mosley... who's fought all of them? That's right, the "mediocre boxer" in my avatar.

Why the PR fans love Cotto - cause he comes to fight, he takes on the best challenges he can, and all bar once (whatever your reimagining of history says), he's come through all right. He has respect for his opponents and for other fighters, he acts with class and he doesn't demand respect he hasn't earned.

That's the difference: people like Cotto and celebrate his achievements because he comes across as a good guy working hard. Floyd is disliked because he comes across as a spoilt jerk who wants the maximum reward for the minimum effort.

Why didnt he fight Paul Williams or Joshua Clottey who deserved a rematch , instead he's taking on a junior welterweight. He's still going to get beat down because he's not that good. But the fact remains.

So? Mayweather fought Corrales, DLH, Castillo, and HAtton over 5 weight classes. If that hype job in your avatar wanted to be like Mayweather, he'd have to fight Mikkel Kessler at 168.

Again, why he's fighting Paul Williams right. BEst challenges and all that.

The only mistake Dirrell really made against Froch was fighting him in Nottingham.

How did Cotto deserve to beat Clottey? Clottey landed more punches, better punches and was the aggressor the last half of the fight. What because he fought with a bloody eye he deserves to win a fight he lost?

Or was it the wicked body slam?

**** that Aaron Pryor bull****. He wasn't a factor when Ray was at WW. Learn some history and then come back on that idiocy.

Last I checked, Leonard KNOCKED TOMMY OUT. That's not just luck - he stung him and he went after him. He'd done it earlier in the fight too and Hearns, because he's a GREAT fighter, adapted and boxed on the backfoot.

Hagler, while on the slide was also a lot bigger than Ray, and Ray had been inactive for years. He was past prime himself.

Don't argue selectively, it just gets you caught out.

Let's focus on the last five years, not his excellent resume below JWW.

Corley, Bruseles, Gatti, Mitchell, Judah, Baldomir, Oscar, Hatton, Marquez. Please point out to me where any of those guys had a real chance of beating him? That's called cherry-picking.

Each one of those guys had already lost fights, and been shown to have significant weaknesses. That has been a pattern for Floyd since he lost to Castillo the first time (see, I can play that game too) and beat him in the rematch - he doesn't want challenges. Can you really deny that, based on the evidence in front of you?

But the primary reason was because he was associated with Malcolm X and this was in the heights of the civil rights movement. It wasn't just cause he was cocky.
