Least likley heavyweight champions, who was the million to one shot?

It may not have been that big of a shock on hindsight and Moorer was only a 2 to 1 favorite at the time. Big George if anything had a punch and Moorer never had the best chin, but watching some early Foreman comeback fights you'd think there would be no chance that this man could ever come even close to being in the title picture again.

About as probable as Riddick Bowe coming back to win the title now.

 

I just thought Moorer would have enough sense to just box and stay clear of Foreman. He was soooo slow it was easy for a technician like Moorer to keep moving away from Foreman, regardless of how flat footed Moorer fought. He just got lazy and complacent because of how easy the fight was going.

Does anyone else think Moorer let his ego get the better of him in that fight?

Foreman definitely had a gameplan though..... generally involving staying in the fight until Moorer eventually stood infront of him. The buildup to the fight exposed Moorer's shortcomings personality/self-belief etc, and George took advantage.

Possibly.

I don't think that he was ever really the best heavyweight on the planet.

He was perhaps the white heavyweight who had the best chance of beating Jack Johnson.

 

I think he just got an old Johnson at the right time and he had the right attributes to do it.

Johnson had slowed down and wasnt as fit and Willard was very tough and he just out lasted Johnson.

 

I don't think that any of the white hopes apart from Willard would have taken Johnson that day.

I do however think that more than one of the black dynamite crew could have done it.

 

Janitor i dont know enough about that era if im honest so i cant really comment on who could have beaten Johnson that day but it would have taken a tough tough fighter
