I'm favoring Cotto in this but the truth is Cotto has been wobbled early a few times so if Manny comes in early and goes hard he may be able to cap...
I think Manny's whiskers will give way. For some reason the thing that keeps coming to mind is that interview with Evander Holyfield before he fought Mike Tyson the for first time. I remember Evander saying "he hasn't been hit" referring to Tyson's fights with McNeeley, Mathis, Bruno and Seldon. Sure he looked good and he seemed sharp but he hasnt been hit. Manny hasnt tasted WW leather. Diaz didnt do it, neither did Oscar who was too much of a corpse to do anything, nor did Hatton do it. Cotto could and when he does how will Manny react? Pacquiao's punches are sharp but in terms taking punishment, Cotto has been there with Mosley, Margarito, Judah, Torres and Clottey who hits harder than Manny. I've been on the fence for the past couple of days but I think that Cotto can pull this off.
Not like it hasn't happened before. Look what Pacquiao did to Hatton!!! Demarcus Corley had Cotto on ***** street. Ricardo Torres put him on the deck as did Margarito. Pac is better than all those guys.
DeMarcus had the weight drained, green all offensive Cotto on ***** street. It's not like he learned the lesson, his chin has proven granite at 147lbs. He has taken some hellacious shots from both Judah and Mosley.. and don't forget Margarito had to hit him with everything but the kitchen sink and he wouldn't budge, but he had to give in after taking that punishment. Cottos chin is absolutely fine, and don't expect him to rush in hands down like Hatton did.
I've been wondering what these "habits" are that Roach said he's noticed of Cotto. Really can't wait to see the gameplan unfold. I think Manny will look for Cotto to drop his left a bit & then try to nail him with a right hook. Cotto will prob be concentrating on Pac's left hand. Last night on NY talk radio 660 WFAN, they NEVER talk boxing, but from 10pm til 2am thats all the talked about. Pac vs Cotto. Manny Steward was on as was Bert Sugar & others. I was in my glory listening to this stuff! :bbb
Hatton's chin doesn't even compare to Cotto. You think Cotto will walk in with his hands down like Hatton anyway? Margarito didn't put him on the deck. He put himself there, and no matter what you say, it's more likely he used the plaster than he didn't. Yep, sure he tried to use it against Mosley, but not Cotto right?
He thought he had the opportunity to use it against Mosley, but he didn't against Cotto. Unless you think the Nevada boxing commission officials supplied him with some concrete on request?
Pac has been dropped more times than Cotto and hurt by lesser fighters than Corley and Torres at lower weights. So we'll see.
Tony Paige is THE MAN! The best thing they ever did was get him. Missed the Sugar interview, but I heard the ones with Manny and Tim Smith. Good stuff.
