I wish lee would learn to defend a bit better , It was nearly Brian Vera all over again THANK GOD it wasn't .
Overall not a bad display and an important win.

 

lee isnt a bad boxer..he's the equivient of a good british champion, and thats a very high level...but he is in no way, or ever will be, world class...
macklin said he would love to defend against him...it would be an easy night for macklin that...lee and macklin are actually good mates, i was behind them in dublin and they were have a great time laughing and joking with each other..
anyhoo...andy lee will never be world class...but nothing wrong with the level he is at.

 

Lee was very lucky that the French lad threw nothing until the last few rounds. If he had thrown more punches early and landed like he did late on, he could well have stopped Andy in the mid rounds. Lest we forget this guy is no phenomenal puncher with just 4 KOs, yet he still hurt Andy.

Even with hand picked opponents, Lee will be lucky to make it to European level and he will get KTFO by Macklin.

 

I was never more depressed, you guys are right andy aint going to make it to the top.

 

Barry, not everyone thinks like theses lads. Lee is going in the right direction. That was a good scalp tonight:deal.

I thought Lee looked great first few rounds and showed great maturity. I think he could have gone for the ko when he had Belghecam winded in the 5th but he seemed reluctant to follow up with any combos. The last round lee looked a little bit like the final round of the Dunne V Voronin fight but that will happen the odd time I suppose. I think Macklin and Rock were right he paniced a little bit. Thing is Lee is still in his early days so he still has plenty to learn. Overall a good performance but a bit more work to do.
2 things I'd like to see.
1> Lee fighting agressively and throwing combos
2> Lee throwing faints more
By focusing on these area's I thikn he can go up a gear in terms of ability.

Lee not getting tagged easily by very,very,very,very,very limited fighters

 

Your grossly exgarrating Lees opponents ablity, he was the EU champ ffs:-(

 

For 8 rounds Lee did the business - he boxed well and did not get drawn into a brawl. His opponent was actually trying to cut off the ring and come at Lee from round 4 - not just the final 2 rounds. The difference is that Lee handled his man very well for the first 8 rounds. Perhaps he was tiring in the last 2 rounds - as he was doing all of the work in the fight and his opponent was throwing very little.

Macklin in the studio summed up what i had been observing. Lee didnt have much head movement - he could have tried to feint more i.e. to try and get his man to loosen his rigid guard and double up on the body punches.

The other thing about Lee that worries me is he is very uncomfortable fighting in the inside - I have noticed that in his recent fights. I think Lee and Duddy is, stylistically, a great match up - boxer v brawler and even though I am not a fan of Duddy, I think he could give Lee big problems. Macklin beats the pair of them.

 

Some of you guys are being way too harsh on Andy. This fight was a learning curve for him & that opponent was a decent & very awkward boxer so give the lad a break ffs.

 

I like Macklin, buts thats not get too carried away about his recent wins . Elcock would have been defeated by McDermott only for McDermott cut, so Elcock has looked poor for the last while. The Finn was simply chinny, and was exposed by macklin. I think lee will defeat Macklin and Duddy:deal

 

Hey look, I'm not saying Andy is a shitty boxer with no talent and nothing going for him and hes a waste of space.

Quite the opposite. For such a prodigiously talented boxer, with such great boxing smarts and the experience of boxing out of the Kronk Gym for however many years he has lots of plus points.

Lets not fool ourselves, though, his defence is shabby. He's good enough to beat all the EU champions you throw in front of him. He can go around that kind of level and handle anyone easily. And if thats as good a level as a fighter can get to then no shame in that.

However, I think we all know that somewhere in there a real top drawer boxer. What is frustrating the **** out of everyone is that Lee isn't getting any closer to unleashing his full potential. He doesn't learn from mistakes apparently. He's not added the guile to his already natural talents.

So, no, I'm not saying Andy is a bad fighter. I'm not saying he didn't box the ears off the lad for 8 rounds.

What I am saying is that I am totally frustrated at his lack of improvement in defence that will cost him if he moves up. As I said there is no shame in being a Euro level boxer. But I know he can be so much more. And thats what pisses me off. He's been jogging on the spot for a while now rather than making strides forward.

If I didn't rate him I wouldn't be so frustrated and disappointed :huh

 

Marty I totally agree with you on this one. Macklin is fast becoming one of the most overrated boxers in Ireland/UK. He's good don't get me wrong but he is being made look better by his recent opposition which haven't been great.

 

A guy takes a few punches in the last round and all of a sudden hes a wanker. It worried me also, but ****ing hell this obuse is becomimg like a witch hunt:-(

 

Yeah, people are too quick to jump all over any mistake from Lee. It wasn't near as bad as what happened to Dunne in the Veronin fight & I honestly don't think Lee was that hurt anyway, he looked more tired than hurt.
