Pacquiao - I would say that Pac continues to amaze me, but he didn't in this fight. This wasn't so because he didn't look good or anything like that, but because he did exactly what I thought he would. Pac is the truth. He's one the best fighters I've seen in my life. He aboslutely obliterated Cotto. Cotto is a good fighter, but he has many flaws. Pac took advantage of all those flaws and ripped Cotto a third *******(Margo already ripped him a second *******). Props to Pacquiao, and I can't wait to see him in there with Money May. Cotto- Cotto has two choices; retire, or fire his whole team and start over. Cotto's trainer is a joke. This guy has no clue. Nothing he could've done would have won Cotto that fight, but he didn't contribute a damn thing. Cotto needs to fire him immediately. I expected Cotto to get destroyed, but he did worse than I thought he would. Before the fight Camacho Sr. said he was a stupid fighter and Vargas said that he is one dimensional. Both proved to be correct in this fight. Cotto is at his best when he's coming foward and ripping that left hook. If you take away that left hook, he's simply not the same fighter. He doesn't have much of a right hand, he can't fight going backwards, his is defense poorous, his stamina isn't that good, and he too often resorts to running when he can't impose his will and/or when the other fighter hurts him. Cotto has fought 4 elite/near elite fighters in his career; Mosley, Margo, Clottey , and Pacquiao. He's 2-2 in those fights. However, I thought Mosley deserved a draw, and I thought Clottey beat the hell out of him and should've won. The other two guys beat him senseless and stopped him. Cotto is a good fighter. However, he is not elite. He can't fight at 140 lbs, and he's too defensively challenged, and chinny to beat top level Welters. When you're considered a power puncher and you're running for your life from a guy who is coming up in weight and was fighting at Super Featherweight a couple of years ago, that's a problem.
Changing his entire team won't do much in my opinion, that's how Cotto fights and how he was brought up to fight. This is his fighting style and it's a very good one as proven early in this fight, early he looked like he might come out victorious to be honest and landed shots on Pacquiao people thought would immediately knock Pac out cold.
I agree, Nothing Cotto can do. He simply can't take what he gives out. (If his opponent can take his best & give = it's a bad night) Then again not many fighter's who can do that, so... (But Itiswhatitis, Cotto will never change & IMO that's a good thing.) Dude always brings it.
Yeah, here comes the backlash. Cotto loses to one of the best fighters in forty years, and now he was never an elite WW? Come on man. I guess that means Shane is only "good" also.
Ok, so he got a furtuitous decsion in front of an almost all P.R crowd against a guy in his mid 30's, and now he's elite? Would anyone pick him to beat Mosley in a rematch? How about Mayweather? What about Williams, or Margo? Those are the elite fighters of his division and he can't beat them. Yes Pac is one the best fighters of recent memory. However, Cotto was propped up as an elite level fighter and Pac was coming up in weight. He got destroyed. Not only was he destroyed, but he never hurt Pac, and he was running away. Imagine if these two guys were the same size.
Take your racist ass to stormfront. We don't need race baiters here. This a boxing forum. You know **** about boxing, and shouldn't be posting here.
What do you consider elite? You say Cotto got a lucky decision against an aging Mosley, yet Margo got KTFO by the same aging Mosley and you consider him to be elite.
Cotto beat Mosely and fought THE BEST in the division. Never ducked, never cherry picked. This is what happens when you take risks, sometimes you lose. End of.
Cotto was elite! He was a two weight world champion. He beat several good fighters (Corley, Torres, Malignaggi) at light welter before stepping up and coming into his own at welter. Quintana was unbeaten, before being ended by Cotto. Quintana then went on to befuddle Paul Williams, who many feel is the most avoided fighter in the sport. He also knocked out Zab Judah, who had recently gone the distance with Mayweather. He then went and beat Mosley, one of the true greats of this era, and whos is now considered the number one welterweight. His defeat to Margarito was an epic, back and forth war that took a lot out of him but he still came back and beat Clottey, one of the best in ww division. My point is Cotto may not be elite, hell he might not wish to fight any more, right now, but looking at his fights, his true warrior spirit, what he meant to Puerto Ricans and true boxing followers everywhere, it has to be said that, in his prime, this man was one of the best.
Pacquiao is a ****ing monster thats all I have to say. He walk right through Cotto's best punches like they were nothing and didn't slowed down one bit. That's just incredible, he's the one moving up in weight but not only his punch resistance seems to be increasing, he also developed welterweight power. That just ain't normal. Cotto tried his best, he did hit Pac with good shots to the body and head but they didn't do almost any damage. I thought it would have been a little more closer because I thought Pac wouldn't take those shots that well. Pacquiao deserves all the credit in the world for this win, there shouldn't be any excuse like people had for Hatton and Oscar.
I give him props for his recent choice of opponents. However, I can't give him credit for looking bad in those fights.
