I thought the fight was very entertaining. Cotto got beat but he gave a good showing of himself. I don't believe he was weight drained, shot or anything like that. Pacquiao completely changed the fight with his angles, speed and crisp counters Cotto didn't see coming. Cotto is an elite fighter and I think that if he keeps fighting and always prepare like he did for this fight he could still become a world champ again. I actually think he could very well beat Mosley again or at least have another close fight with him.
A very good big man got beat by a great "little" man. End of. Paquiao is just better. Oddly, he somehow keeps getting better each fight. Taking Cotto's punches was most impressive of anything, and staying composed and just sticking his gloves up while on the ropes and letting Cotto swing away. That was nuts! IMO, but that wasn't part of Freddie's gameplan.
It's understandable for Cotto fans to feel this way. However, Cotto did not look good last night. He only connected on 20 something % of his punches. Pac landed over 40%. Cotto won only 2 rounds, was knocked down twice and resorted to running while still getting pummeled. There was a couple of times when he hit Pac flush and and Pac didn't even budge. That's not a good sign at all. He shouldn't go anywhere near Mosley. He'll definately getted stopped in that fight. He can win a title again, but it will have to be a vacant title or he'll have to fight some lower tier champ who won a paper belt himself.
It's a good thing no one takes posts like this seriously. Cotto was extremely game until the 4th round, when he was put on ***** street.
Cotto looked good on the first rounds even though he was losing. The 20% of punches connected is due to him running in the last six rounds after he was done. Pac taking Cotto's punches was very impressive, it doesn't say anything bad about Cotto it just lets us know how good Manny is and how he has adjusted to the higher weighclassess. I don't think he would get stopped against Mosley at all but I guess we just have different opinoins on that fight, hopefully the rematch comes through. The rest of the points are more agreeable.
Ok buddy. It's too bad title fights last 12 rounds, not 4. Cotto won two rounds, was battered, and eventually stopped. Any objective viewer will tell you that Cotto didn't look good in that fight. It doesn't take an expert to see that Cotto didn't perform well in that fight.
I can see your point of view. As much **** as I give Cotto, I hope you're right and that I'm wrong. However, I see Cotto going the Jermain Taylor rout. Time will tell though.
Cotto's wins over Mosley and Clottey were very questionable. And last night proved he's way too slow to have ever beaten Floyd.
So, by your definition: Hearns didn't fight well against Hagler because he only lasted 3 rounds. Castillo gave a poor account of himself against Corrales because he was knocked out in the 10th. Vasquez bitched out against Marquez in their first fight because he didn't last 12 rounds. Your posts are so ****ing ridiculous. Look at you in here giving yourself a pat on the back because the fight went "Exactly the way you knew it would." OK Manny Steward, keyboard warrior to the stars, you play a mean clown, I'll give you that.
He lacks footwork and is way too slow to avoid getting hit cleanly by counter punches. Taking clean punches in return has always been a problem for Cotto. He's still accomplished a great deal, but his flaws are undeniable.
I can't see Cotto ever reinventing himself, no matter who trains him. The Cotto we've got is the Cotto we're going to have until he retires. That said, he looked great in the first few rounds before Pacquiao took control.
Seriously man, take a step back and actually read what you wrote. It's obvious that you have a pre existing beef with me. This post by you makes zero sense. Nowhere did I argue that Cotto didn't perform well simply because he lost or because he got stopped. However, Pac landed at will, Cotto had a poor connect rate. Cotto could not keep Pac on the ropes. Cotto could not sustain a body attack. He did nothing that he needed to do to win that fight. He lost pretty much every round, was dropped twice, and was eventually stopped. Clearly he didn't perform well in that fight. Don't give me this bull**** about how he did in the first 4 rounds. If an NFL team plays well in the first quarter and then proceeds to turn the ball over mutliple times over the next 3 quarters and then loses by 30 points, are you going to tell me that they performed well? Of course not. Please stop with your ridiculous argument.
Pac proved why he is one of the finest boxers of all time...... To do that to Cotto was very impressive and showed his speed and power to the next level the question is how far can he go, how much more proof do people need that he is a legend. Cant wait to see Mayweather come unstuck...
