Not that it would have made much of a difference, but Cotto's corner was absolutely awful last night. They gave very little instruction, and actually contributed to the panic that started to set in for Cotto VERY early on.

Santiago was pleading with Cotto after the second KD, to "hang in there". There was panic going on in that corner instead of a calm voice to settle things down. It reminded me of Snowell in Tyson's corner. A trainer that was brought in solely to take a fighters instructions during camp instead of the other way around.

I don't blame Santiago, rather I blame Cotto for wanting to run the show in camp. When he broke up with his uncle, that would have been the time to take his training to another level with a world class trainer. Instead he chose to have himself surrounded by a bunch of yes men that were deep in over their heads. Cotto may be able to resurrect his career to a certain degree, but it will take a top trainer to make it happen.

Yeah, they were at the Snowell level. Utterly incompetent, and basically useless.

I was drunk at a bar so I didn't hear what his corner was telling him between rounds. But it would appear that Cotto could definitely use a more experienced trainer in there.

Snowell actually improved and became a solid trainer after the debacle in Tokyo.

Can you even think of a corner that was this low level compared to the level of fight since Snowell-Tyson? The only thing that somewhat comes to mind was Jack Loew during Pavlik-Hopkins. But Loew has otherwise proven to be somewhat decent.

The fact that they weren't giving solid technical instruction wasn't the worst part. I think we've all seen that happen, sometimes even with a top level trainer from time to time. It was the panic in their voices that was so shocking. They were freaking out more than anyone I've ever seen at a top level fight. I honestly think his corner contributed to Cotto losing hope a few rounds earlier than it should have happened.

Cotto had a look of defeat in his eyes by the 5th round. He really shouldn't have gotten to that point until the 9th round or so.

Santiago showed his inexperience last night. Yes he was apprenticing with Evangelista for 5 years, but it was only his second fight as the head trainer.

Like I said before the fight. I was concerned at the lack of experience in Cotto's corner. Those concerns turned out to have merit.

snowell wasnt that bad. but he was clearly just a name so that hbo could put "trainer" next to it. personally i think he is a good trainer. but yeah tokyo, SHAMBLES.

last night from the transcript, there was too many words of good luck, try your best and hope. these should NEVER come into a trainers mind. your telling a guy what to do or what not to do. not give him pitty.

anywyays they cant beat snowell's "rat **** on cotton" quote

Snowell did good work other than the poor work with Tyson. Training Frankie Randall when he upset Julio Cesar Chavez, Julian Jackson, and later Tim Austin. He became a solid trainer.

But naturally, it's hard to live it down when you put a condom on someone's eye instead of having Enswell, or at least a damn ice pack.

You have a point, Snowell was not the incompetent that so-called "co-trainer" Jay Bright was. That guy knew nothing about boxing, and was basically a Tyson toady.

But even if Snowell had more boxing acumen than that incident indicated, he clearly was part of one of the worst all-time corners.

yeah lack of experience, should of said that. it was also the lack of guidance. miguel was almost instructing himself. "yeah i'm going out next round". :think it's not a decision the fighter makes it's the corners question which the fighter either shows he wants to continue or not.

thew cut man did a pretty good job though. cuts and blood during middle rounds then only swelling. the worse ive seen recently was juan diaz's corner by using a dry towel to scrap his face **** agaisnt nate campbell. then using an enswell like it was whack a mole. :barf:barf:barf

cotto needs a corner,a real head trainer,a real team i said it from the begining!emanuel offered his hand and cotto didnt take the offer.where was his advice last night in the corner, his tactical advice his advise to adjustment...there was none!he also looked like a greyhound.. the cotto i know is solid, thick!he was drained last night...thats why he had no power...look if cotto had a real head trainer and came in at his 147 weight(which means 155 during the fight after the weigh in from blowin up)he would have took manny punches and i bet he would have wore him down eventually to a knockout.lets all be honest here ok!cotto also gave up because he thought he wasnt hurting manny when he was then manny knocked him down twice that further discouraged him but all he had to do was keep his cool and adjust his defense and keep on with the punches eventually manny would have wore down but he had no corner to tell him this no "freddy roach" to firmly guide him with game plan a or b!!manny looked like **** during his interviews and that was with a drained non coached cotto!!let the real cotto come in at 147 and with a real head trainer you can kiss manny goodbye..lets all be real here please!look all you have to do is listen to key words said by freddy roach and manny after the fight!freddy said he was concerned after the first round and manny said the punches hurt but he couldnt show it..etc...like i said a true cotto at 147 and with a real head trainer..goodnight pac man..good night! cotto had no real game plan a or b neither did his corner!
