Why do people still use the JMM fight to gauge Pac-Mayweather fight???

Stylistically, JMM is the closest thing to Floyd that Pac has fought. The difference is that Floyd is faster, and has a better defense. If you want an idea of how this fight will go, that's a very good fight to look at. There is a damn good reason that they say styles make fights. Pac has not faced anyone that fights like Marquez since that fight. He's fought 4 straight left hand dominant fighters, three of those guys have pourous defense. The fourth guy was drained and washed up. If you're betting on this fight, it would be much wiser to look at that Pac/Marquez fight than it would be to look at Pac's recent.

 

pac was not green nor amateurish anymore by the time he rematched jmm but i think it is safe to say now that he was drained in his last 2 fights at 130. pac moving up and gaining strength is a testament to that. imo, pac's improvement have started during the MAB rematch. some even points to the time when he fought morales a 2nd or 3rd time.

 

Its stupid to gauge the Pac-Mayweather fight based of their individual fights with JMM not because Pac has changed a lot or a little since then but because JMM changed the most from being in top form as a featherweight fighting Pac to an old, slow, undersized welterweight fighting Floyd.

I don't know if you know this, but Pac fought Marquez a second time 2 years ago. Many thought Marquez won that fight as well. Pac has not fought a guy with a good right hand since that fight. It looks like this fight will happen, so time will tell. However, you are pretty off base when you say looking at that fight is stupid in terms of trying to gauge a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight.

 

The JMM fights are the only measure available of how Pac deals with masterful counterpunching (answer: not all that well). Floyd (who I detest) is much faster than JMM, a better counterpuncher, and one of the greatest defensive fighters in the history of the sport. Pac certainly was not 'green' when he fought JMM. He simply has difficulty with great counterpunching.

 

How Mayweather did against Marquez is no indication of how he would do against Mayweather. However, how Pacquiao did against Marquez is a solid indicator of how he would do against Mayweather. IMO, Pac/Marquez and Mayweather/Judah are the best fights to look at when trying to gauge this fight. Of course, both fighters have changed so it's not an exact science.

 

Wtf are u talking bout. The second Marquez fight was last year in 2008. Pac was almost 30 and he struggled with marquez in that fight.

With that said I dont think mayweather will beat Pac becasue of how they both looked against Marquez, I just think that mayweather is too skilled for Pac and will outclass him.

 

Ypu can use the ODY and Hatton fights if you will, and Pac did much better then Money did.

The TS is a ******* but the argument is not without merit. The dynamics are not the same.

 

Marquez does not have a great style for dealing with Pac. He gets away with what he does
(dropping both hands while ducking and countering with split-second timing) because he is a boss.

Anyone else tries this "style" and they get ****ed up.

Floyd would try to mirror Morales and incorporate his own considerable attributes into the mix.
