Cotto lost because his strength and power did not faze the Pacman.

Pacquiao's a better fighter, simple. He has speed, power and accuracy which can destroy almost any opponent.

They might not of said it, but it's a no-brainer Team Cotto thought Pacquiao had little to very little chance of knocking Cotto around like that. Key, IMV, because everything else failed after that, because of that. Cotto shat his pants when he realized the little ****er could hurt him with single shots.

He lost because Pacquiao is a better fighter.

However, if there were areas to highlight that would have made Cotto more competitive beyond 4 rounds I'd say defence. His guard is technically deficient, everybody including slow fisted fighters like Margarito can punch right on through it so Pacquiao finding the target regularly was no surprise. There is only so many punches like that a fighter can take before it takes an effect, and it culminated in Cotto lunging and getting knocked down for a second time which took the wind out of his sails completely.

From Pacquiao's POV his angles and handspeed obviously made a huge difference because Cotto commented he couldn't see the punches, so even with better defence he'd have struggled with counterpunches coming his way.

for some odd reason he didnt box pacquiao and when we saw the glimpses of him applying his boxing skill the fight didnt seem so one sided but pacquiao's relentless pressure and combinations were guna be to much for anbody to handle.

Oh, and Cotto never took punches well. NEVER. Glad that MYTH was laid bare once and for all. Regardless of Manny's power. Cotto doesn't run because he's scared. He runs because he can't take the damage. He's a dixie cup. Always. A developed master at concealing it, but a cup all the way.

Manny's power. I can't believe Manny has this power at 147. I don't think anyone had KD'd Cotto like that, only by accumulation. I thought Cotto was a hurtable guy, but he's shown he's hard to knock down.

Speed, workrate... really it was a combination of things.

Like when Clottey landed, then let off, Manny landed, but didn't let off.

Cotto is a freakout when he gets hit with something good. He's done that against virtually every opponent. When he gets tagged his face flushes red and he unloads with a 5 or 6 downstairs upstairs combo full engines.

It's just Pacquiao kept hitting him with 'something good.' Perpetual freakout and mental collapse were soon to follow.

    Moreso the top three reasons.
    Pacquiao's Speed
    Pacquiao's Power
    Pacquiao's Skill

Good point. ESPN had some old Cotto fights on a couple of years ago. He was fighting some can and consistantly ran everytime the guy landed a couple of punches. The announcers were confused. They had no idea why he was getting on his bike. He has consistantly resorted to running or throwing low blows whenever he takes a couple of shots thrughout his career.

Would Cotto have won the fight with better durability? Would he have been closer?

I personally doubt it, maybe a little closer if he hadn't faded as badly as a result of punishment. Both the knockdowns he was either off balance or in an ugly position. He lost 4 points through technical errors when he hit the canvas. He was also outboxed by Pacquiao overall so it didn't come down to that alone.

There were obviously a number of factors that contributed to his downfall not least of which is how good Pacquiao was, that is the primary place to start looking because Pacquiao is a fantastic fighter right now, and Cotto is no scrub.

Did Cotto fade due to stamina or punch resistance/punishment?
