Should have let him finish. He was on his feet, and he deserved to be able to finish the fight if he wanted.

I am a big Pac fan but the referee was wrong for that, that was my first word when the fight was stopped,if you didn't stop the fight at rounds 6,7,8,9,10,11 why in round 12 when the fight was 2 minutes to the end? That was a poor judgement for a referee i have a lot of respect for, that was the same thing he did to meldrick Taylor against Chavez in 1990. Cotto was the defending champ and he deserve to be the one to say no more rather than stopping when he didnt even get a 4 punch combinations.

he shouldn't have stopped it so that i would've won my bet (pac by UD to win 245$)

seriously though Bayless did an absolutely terrific job the entire night. He gave Cotto one last hurrah to come out in the 12th and show him something. When Pac started putting the beats on Cotto in that round Bayless stopped it right away because he knew that another round of massive beatdown could be bad for Cotto's health.

He should have stopped it sooner.

Cotto wasn't able to hold Pacquiao anymore, and that's probably what prompted Bayless to stop the fight.

Nah man, I still think Cotto could have lasted one more minute to finish in 12.

I have no problems with the stoppage. While it could be argued that an earlier stoppage was warranted, at least there was time after the 9th round for Cotto to do something.

The 10,11 and 12th round all Cotto did is try to survive, and he was still getting hit and getting progressively weaker and his defense getting progressively worse.

Cotto got nailed in the 12th, was against the ropes, and really had little to no hope of getting out of there without taking a bunch more damage.

It might have been nice for Cotto to finish the fight, but his safety has to come first.

bayless was waiting for the corner to do that. he had no choice when the corner still sent cotto out, he was just looking for a reason to stop the fight. it did when cotto was tagged yet again. sad for cotto. he was a great champ

The fight should have been allowed to reach its natural conclusion. Cotto didn't stand to sustain much more damage because he was on his bike . . . and it was a 21 speed. WTF, you let the guy go that far and then you can him in the 12th??? Don't understand that **** . . . not unless the guy's getting pummeled.

Last Friday in Vegas, a fighter got smashed in the final round and got KD hard, but still went on to stand up and win the fight via decision and got a guaranteed title shot his next fight (Z gorres, bantamweight Philippines) and he collapsed in the dressing room minutes later. He went into a coma, less than 24 hours before the Pac-Cotto fight. He's still in critical condition as of today.

That may have been on Bayless' mind.

He was giving Cotto extra respect, giving me a chance to land a hail mary. I thought the fight should have gone longer, as the punching sequence in which Cotto was stopped was not any more remarkable then any other fighting sequence (i.e., Pac abusing Cotto's face). In any event, it was a sort of cumulative stoppage, from all the other exchanges. I believe that up to that point Bayless was giving Cotto a chance to make something in the 12th round and when he saw that this round was like all the others, he stopped it. Bayless is as good as they come. Him and Smoger are the finest in the game.

should have stopped it earlier, Pac was gaining on Cotto and was about to give a brutal beating to the already tired cotto when the ref stepped in. Cotto's corner wanted to stop it rds earlier.

The fight should have been stopped sooner, but Bayless did the best he could.

Cotto's corner needed to step up and protect their fighter. We've seen too many examples when the corner fails to do its job. Don't make the fighter quit and don't risk him getting taken from his family. At the point he start to just backpeddle and stopped throwing punches with any conviction, they should have put a halt to it.

What's the point of letting it continue?

Cotto looked bad, his face was marked up terribly, eyes swollen, the damage had been done. The only thing on the line at that point was pride, I would've like to see Cotto finish the fight withou the KO on his record, but Bayless was protecting the fighter over the record. Pac was still fresh, who knows if he could've wound up and landed one of those left hooks that sent Hatton down. I suppose Bayless did the right thing

If Cotto went down one more time, then I'd agree with the stoppage but I think Cotto should have been given the right to go the distance.
