Manny Pacquiao vs. Buddy McGirt at WW

Interesting match up. I think it would depend on the mindset that Buddy goes in with. If he tries to slug with Pac he might find himself getting beat down in the second half of the fight becuase Pac even at this weight still has really good stamina and Buddy never really did.

If Buddy chooses to box intelligently behind the jab and use his sneaky head movement he should pull out a comfortable victory, even though I'd expect him to still get occasionally rocked and hurt.

 

Manny beats McGirt. Buddy was an excellent technical boxer, but the way to beat him was speed. Manny's speed and POWER would be too much for McGirt.

 

I think McGirt would do well at first but Manny's speed and unpredictability would overwhelm him down the stretch and result in either a decision victory or a late round KO.

 

I think this would be something of a replay of McGirt's fight with Taylor. Pac would simply be too fast and aggressive for him.

 

McGirt really was only a winner against the lesser "B" competition........... Packy schools McGirt in a good fight over 12 rds........

Luis Collazo would have beat Oscar that night.

And Cotto would lose about 10 rounds to Buddy McGirt.

 

I think McGirt would edge it. You could clearly see the success Cotto had with his jab and when he tried to box late in the fight. McGirt was better with both. Much better. Pac would rock McGirt and may even knock him doen but I think McGirt would prevail and win a decision. I won´t count out a TKO for Pac but the chances for a McGirt win are higher imo.

 

Sorry, but I don't really see much basis for either of these claims.

The first one is purely unsubstantiated.

As for Cotto-McGirt, who has ever had substantial success boxing Cotto? Cotto has done exceptionally well against fighters that try to outbox him, ie: Judah, Quintana, Malignaggi, etc. The two fighters who beat him, and generally the ones that's given him the most trouble, are the ones that take it to him and pressure him.

 

Ask yourself, are any of these guys as good as McGirt?

 

Whether they are or not, the fact still remains McGirt's style is more favorable for Cotto than vice versa.

 

I think it's safe to say, durable nonstop punchers are a nightmare for anyone, but Cotto really has no answer to them. There is a chance that Cotto does enough to outpoint McGirt, although he may get caught at mid-range trying to box against someone much more adept at it than he is (let's be honest, regardless of his amateur credentials, Cotto is a pressure fighter, the attempt to box from basically the 2nd half of his fight with Mosley to now has been honourable but has only been implemented due to his lack of durability making it impossible for him to be on the offensive all the time) I still rate Cotto as a damn good fighter, although tough, skilled and can punch, he's not iron-chinned, not as fluent as he'd like to be and not the biggest banger. I'm still a big fan but it's clear that Cotto isn't and isn't going to be a 'great'. Then again, neither was McGirt and that's why I Predict Mannys non-stop aggression and improved guard would see him do enough to win on points (see I got there eventually)
