It's tough...that was his first big-time exposure to an English-speaking audience (some of us diehards know him well and followed his progress from his star tenure headlining the Solo Boxeo series) and it was kind of a dud. It was the best of the three bouts on a pretty wretched undercard (thankfully the main event made the pricetag forgivable by itself!) but not as terrific a battle as expected, and ended in anticlimactic fashion.

He'll probably be stigmatized as a dirty fighter now, even though he just applied his usual body attack and a lot of what he got warned and penalized for are blows that he gave and took without a single foul call back when he was fighting on TV Azteca. :verysad

He looked like ass in there. It's back to the drawing boards or look for a cash out.

This was a career performance from Gomez, and the ref basically forbade bodypunches. Not to mention JSK won a couple of the few rounds there were, and looked to be coming on late as is his wont before it was stopped.

Gomez did look as sharp as I've ever seen him.

Crazy that he may end up having a longer shelf life as a WW than Cotto will.

Tough t osay.Back to the drawing board.

He won't be getting another HBO date unless he signs to fight somebody he probably can't beat.

How about him fighting Cotto or Margarito in their comebacks?Or Clottey?

    Maybe to much.

I'd like to see him fight Delvin Rodriguez on FNF. That would be a good action fight.

He was matched tough very early on, in 2004-5, losing decisions to three consecutive undefeated guys when only 11-0-1 (one being current WBA light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman; another being exciting fellow Mexican welterweight prospect Freddy Hernandez who other than a SD loss to Golden Johnson has yet to really step up since beating JSK).

After that he went on a really good run (13-0-2) against mostly B and C+ level guys, some wins over somewhat "name" veterans in Vince Phillips, Chris Smith and David Estrada and prospects like JuanMa Buendia, Jose Ojeda, and Michel Rosales. He definitely always had problems with consistency, looking like a beast and a potential new-and-improved version of Margarito at times; and pretty limited and lackluster at others. The good mostly outweighed the bad, unfortunately for him the bad came at his biggest moments (he didn't look his greatest against Smith, for instance).

Not sure about amateur experience. He turned pro at eighteen, so he may be a learn on the job guy. It would definitely explain his up and down nature. Come to think of it, it would surprise me if he did have any sort of foundation whatsoever.

thanks good post, he looks like he could do with moveing up to lightmiddleweight, he looked drained at the weigh in for the gomez fight. There are some good fights at lightmiddle maybe against angulo or cintron on hbo? he would be brought in to lose but with his up and down form he might pull something of. Also i think he would of got gomez down the stretch gomez wanted out of the fight, plus the guy couldnt even throw body shots

154 might not be a bad idea at all, it's pretty open at the moment, especially for someone with JSK's style. I'd actually like him over Cintron.

Delvin would tear his ass up. He'd end up worse than Oscar Diaz,
