Yes he's proven at welterweight, but I still think his best weight is 140 and him fighting at welterweight and having the success he is really shows how great Pacquiao really is.

The big question is.."What do you think?" As one of the members here on ESB who never really wanted to give PAC credit.

Well....no question PAC is still smaller than Cotto and FLoyd, but the last 3 fights he's had has really allowed him to get comfortable fighting above 140. He's still no TRUE WW but he can definitley perfrom! Cotto was definitely bigger than PAC and that was apparent but PAC didn't show he was any weaker....just phyically smaller.

That seems to be the trend with PAC. PAC does things to fighters that NO ONE has ever seen nor expected. From EM, MAB, JMM to Diaz, Hatton, DLH and now Cotto. But of course the man is clearly feasting on Shot, weiht drained, distracted or past their prime fightrs who are pretty much shot anyway. So of course he looks good dominating. It's all about timing.:D

He scored belt at WW in impressive fashion from top contender so he is proven.
He is not #1 however, not ring champion, not linear champion or unified champion.
Being proven is not the same as being THE BEST OF.

Lemme just say Ima Cotto fan and nothing close to being a PAC fan,as a matter of fact I doubt i will ever be a Pacqiuao fan but I must correct u

Manny didnt beat Cotto,He DESTROYED him and he proved he can take a welterweight punch, and not just any welterweight punch,a punch from a strong welterweight

Pac def prove himself as a threat to any 147 pounder

Wow! Says a lot about you being a fan of BOXING! Not just of one particular fighter. But a question.....how can't you be a fan of PAC? I like Cotto for obvious reasons. His demeanor, skills, destructive offense and a true professional who can dig down deep and find a way to win against the best. PAC is the same! But Floyd is an exact opposite of Cotto and PAC but I like Floyd a lot too.

Perfectly stated. Anyone that disagrees is simply not rational. And he did much better against Cotto than two major league Welterweight badasses: Clotto and Mosley. PBF would never fight either of those guys, or Cotto for that matter. Instead at Welter PBF fought Baldomir, and Judah (right after Judah had lost to Baldomir), Hatton (a 140 champ moving up), Oscar (a legit fight for which I give PBF credit), and JMM. He should have fought at least one of the following: Margarito, Cotto, Mosley, Clottey and Vernon Forrest (maybe too big for PBF I grant you). PBF would have had a great chance against any of them, but he would have had a chance to lose as well, and he doesn't like that.

How long does anyone think JMM would have lasted against Cotto?

What a contrast between PBF and either Ray Leonard or Tommy Hearns (at Welter and as warriors).

Come on, next Manny will fight Williams @ JMW, Pavlik @MW, Kessler @ SMW and Hopkins @ LHW... How about fighting a Klitschko?

Manny is great but don't forget he's quite small, he beats guys way bigger then himself which is exactly what makes him great as opposed to Mayweather who beats way smaller guys for living, but there's a line somewhere he shouldn't cross.

I think WW is still okay for Manny but no higher. There are enough fights for him at WW, JWW and LW for more then one boxer's life.

He has proven he can be good at the weight but he needs to fight a welterweight at his own weight. He made Cotto and DLH cut down to a catch weight and Hatton is a 140 lber I would not consider him a welter.

To solidify himself I would like to see him in against the Berto Moseley winner or Maywheather at the 147 lb limit

He was pushing back, hurting, breaking down, and ultimately stopped one of the stronger, aggressive WW's in Cotto, so I don't see how you can't consider him proven at 147. There is no need for catch weights, he's proven he has one punch KO power at 140 to 147.

Pac is amazing, but proven at a weight that he has only actaully fought in once??? Not so much. Fighting Oscar and Cotto at Welterweight or 145 which seems to be the Pacweight doesnt prove him as a welterweight no more then it would prove floyd a supermiddle fighting Bute at 165 Or Glen Johnson at 165. You see when you put it in that kind of context its seems less impressive.

Pac needs to fight a welterweight at welterweight, if he wants to fight Jr welters then he should do so. At the end of the day one could still argue that Pac is fighting weakened fighter. It seems that those FACTS go largely unnoticed by many.

Amazing run that Pac is on but still debatable as to just how good it is.

There is nothing to debate about how good his is. The only rational debate is how he will do against guys in the welterweight division. The fact that a guy who was flyweight champion is beating the crap out of welterweights and Junior welterweights already shows just how good he is.
