It didn't surprise me. At that time Tommy was losing his legs and was fighting more, and Iran loved those haymakers. After Hagler, Tommy legs were just not as effective as before. Don't know why. After that fight with Iran in 1988, Tommy adjusted and went 12 rounds more and fought on the ropes and used experience. That is what is great about Hearns, he changed his style a little and still won decisions and beat Virgil on his hand speed and jab and experience. But to be honest, after Iran in 1988 his career was more of a struggle it seems. He did not have the easy fights he did earlier. But he still won.

good post, I think beating Tommy in 1981 was a great win for Ray as was the Benitez and Duran wins. Ray is absolutely in my mind above Duran and Hearns and Benitez. He has to be, and yet his career only has 40 fights. But he is ATG top 10 in my mind easily.

Homie.....you read too far into things. I was merely commenting that PAC....along with other greats get their fair share of unwarranted and unjust critisim during their careers. PAC is no differnt. I wasnt' offended in any way. Just commenting on you post which seem to differ from my own. Just b/c I didn't agree...doesn't mean we are "arguing". After all, we aren't in a relationship. A female trait is over reacting and getting upset when their man tells them the truth. Real talk! But again.....you are not on the rag...?????????????? Rght?:huh

yeah that is always interesting how some great fighters (most rather) have that one guy who can beat them who is not that great. Frankie Randall with Chavez. Douglas with Tyson (although that might be Tyson being off that night added to Douglas fighting great. Norton with Ali was a struggle for Ali. Shouldn't have been. Even Bowe and Golota, not to assume Bowe is great, but he is Hall of Fame possibly.

ray's win over benitez is really underrated, i'm glad you mentioned it. benitez may not have been at peak form but he's one of the top 5 greatest defensive master's of all time and ray knocked him the **** out. THAT'S impressive

I think that Pacman should be rated higher p4p than Leonard now.

By the way, since I mentioned Bowe and Golota, this pertains to Pacman and his last 3 fights. Pacman has been fighting guys who have good left hooks, but not great rights. True Golota was not a southpaw but, Bowe has a great left, but not a great right (although Gonzales might think differently). So Golota could avoid the left and not worry about Bowe as far as his right. But when Golota fought Lewis, Lennox had that right and landed early and stopped Golota. Just saying , if someone fought Pacman who had a left hook and a right, things might be different. Roach has a gameplan, but the gameplan does not have to change much if he keeps fighting left hooking fighters.

It was impressive. And Ray stopped him with 10 seconds left I think. That fight card was interesting since Marvin fought on the undercard and got a draw with Antuofermo, and Ray wins. So that is more bitterness for Marvin against Ray. But you are right, Benitez was great defensively. He is the only guy I ever saw make Hearns miss big punches 4 in a row, and Benitez was against the ropes. Interesting to see.

Benn looked really good that day. I was impressed. Then remember how Benn struggled with Doug Dewitt months before the Barkley fight, yet blasted out Iran? Boxing is so unpredictable that way. Benn was just too quick for Iran I think. One fight which never happened at the time which might have been good was Dewitt/Barkley.
