Mayweather is NOT a "better fighter" than Pacquaio

I think there is a perception that Mayweather is a better fighter than Pacquaio. There are many reasons for this faulty assumption. Firstly, FMJ fits the archeype of what we think a great fighter is; an English speaking African-American. Secondly, we tend to think he is "technically better" or more "naturally gifted" because we put too much emphasis on defence, "pure boxing ability" and all that, the same reason we admire Whitaker, Hopkins etc.

I think when you do a side by side analysis of the two fighters, Pacquaio comes out on top in a significant number of categories. Ok, Pacquaio has a better resume, has accomplished marginally more - thats a given. But he is also quicker, stronger, his punches and angles have more variety, he uses better combinations and he is more aggressive. Manny has a solid defense, nice lateral movement and a good chin - although Mayweather's defense is vastly superior and he has better footwork/movement and a marginally better jab.

Overall, there is nothing to choose between these two fighters, unless you put a silly amount of emphasis on defence, to the detriment of every other attribute a great fighter has.

When I read this part...My first thought was:huh.

Then I began laughing my ASS OFF because...here is someone that is telling "us" (ESB Forum Posters) that "our" assumption of a great fighter is..."African American"...Based off of the "Assumption" in a thread written by someone in EUROPE!!!

Ok...Its time to put my Passport to use and take a trip.

Because they must have some AMAZING DRUGS "Across the Pond":rasta

I wouldnt really say he is stronger. Mayweather is the bigger guy and he is in great physical condition. Pac doesnt have a good defense, he just has the foot speed to get away with it because most guys cant counter him cause he is too fast. PBF has the handspeed, accuracy and defense to be able to avoid manny's punches and counter him effectively, something that most other guys out there wont be able to do.

Style wise, mayweather is pretty much the worst matchup for pac. People get too hung up on Manny's KO wins over common opponents, but Manny is a puncher and aggressive so of course he will get earlier KO's that doesnt mean he is better and that doesnt help him head to head against PBF.

Its like Tito and Hopkins vs Joppy. Tito got an earlier KO, he was supposed to he is a puncher, but that doesnt mean he is better head to head against Hopkins as there are different styles and skills that affect the matchup.

 Yeah so much for DLH being the most popular US boxer since SRL. Americans only like black fighters:lol:

Looks like boxing is well balanced regarding ethnic fighters. No race/ethnicity has the upper hand though you could say eastern europeans dominate at heavyweight.

there is a major downturn in top american black fighters, there just aren't many great ones these days outside of Williams, Hopkins. It's a mystery why this is so.

Mayweather is more techincally gifted, and has a higher ring IQ, but Pacquiao is faster, and hits harder. I honestly don't think Floyd Mayweather could beat Manny Pacquiao. I really don't. Pacquiao probably couldn't knock May out, but he could apply enough pressure, and land enough punches to keep Floyd retreating and using way more defense than offense, and thus, losing the fight.

Here's an assumption, Mayweather will beat Pacquiao. In the end, that's all that matters.

Us fans can argue all day about who has the better resume, but one thing is for sure Mayweather is the better fighter. Records aside fights aside, just based on ability which is what we are talking about Mayweather a more complete fighter.

Add the same physical giftedness Pac-Man has if not more with the great techinique. there is no question Mayweather is the better fighter.

What can manny do in the ring that Mayweather cant? Reverse the question and there is your answer.

Floyd is a better boxer....no doubt.....Manny is the better fighter without question....both are equally talented and athletically inclined. Pretty even match up...two GREAT Fighters...with conflicting styles. but ultimately this is a match up between a great lil man vs a great big one. I think it's safe to go with a Decision for Mayweather who's saftey first style will have it difficult for pac to really mount a good offense.
