Unfortunately, no one really knows. He refuses to test himself against a quality opponent and in the fights he does take, he only does the bare minimum to win. Floyd has admitted that he doesn't like taking punches. He avoids it at all costs. His goal is to take as little punishment as possible. He doesn't want to mess up that "pretty" face. Unfortunately, this also means inflicting as little punishment as possible (as this opens you up to counters). Floyd's strategy is basically get one punch in, then run the rest of the round. Does anyone disagree?
I know how good Mayweather is. Watch what he did in Castillo 2, after Castillo one was a close fight. He rematched him immediately and beat him clearly (recognizing, ad******g and implementing) Funny how shane mosley gets praised for his courage in rematching Wright and Forrest immediately, but Floyd doesn't. He was also fighting the bigger man at the time. Watch Corrales Watch his fight with JMM. Yes he was bigger and SHOULD have won, but he won not by using his size, he outclassed JMM to the point that it was embarrassing. JMM was known, prior to this fight, as a brilliant pure boxer and counter puncher...during the fight he looked like neither one of those things Watch the Hatton fight. so what if Manny beat him more impressively, Mayweather still schooled him and knocked him out beautifully.
Has Mayweather truly tested himself against the very best fighters. No. Do we really know how good Mayweather is? Well, we have caught glimpses here and there, but no one knows the full extent of his talent. We do have to remember one thing about boxing: It is the art of hit without being hit, and no one does that better than Mayweather. He has the highest connect percentage according to CompuBox and is hit the least. Do I like his attitude? No. However, there is no denying his skill. I believe if Pacquiao and Mayweather fight each other, we will see the both of them bring out the very best in each other. Manny has too much honor and will refuse to go down. Floyd has too much pride and will refuse to lose. Their styles match up perfectly as Pacquiao has yet to face a top tier slick fighter like Mayweather and Mayweather struggles a bit against fighters who can apply pressure properly. These are the ingredients of an epic battle. How good is Mayweather? Let's hope he fights Pacquiao so we can find out.
Mayweather is a master technician in the ring. He should take the Pac fight, which I am sure he will, and show his determination.
I'm not fan of his style, but maybe Mayweather is an evil genius who is just gaming the system. Like he says, boxing is not "you hit me, I hit you." Why work any harder than you have to? Should we hold it against him that his strategy is to outpoint his opponent and play defense? Sure it's not as exciting as a knockout, but a win is a win. Just like a soccer match that is won by one goal whether it is 1-0 or 9-8... the end result is the same.
Stop talking ****. Anyone who gets one punch in then runs the rest of the round won't win the round. Simple as that. You're exaggerating. He's fought a ton of top fighters aswell. He had no business being in the ring with De La Hoya at 154. There was a much bigger size advantage for Oscar over Floyd than there was Floyd over JMM.
keep this bull**** coming cause its just gonna make mayweathers beating of pac man sweeter when it happens
Didnt Floyd have a 7 inch reach advantage over JMM?! And as for Pacquiao has yet to face a top tier slick fighter, I think there is only one...
How good is Mayweather? Very good, but not that special. Relies too much on head movement, neglects a lot of his punching arsenal, fights way too much on the back foot and, at times, allows his opponents to get off freely on him. Would be beaten by a lot of champions at 147 in history, and wouldn't crack the very top level. Back at 130 and in terms of pure talent, he could have been a true great.
