Look guys Oscar was great and the numbers he did will probably never be matched, he fought a lot of people, but he lost his biggest fights consistently and sinmply did not bring the type of excitement that Manny brings. Tyson brought the excitement but his lack of character precluded him from being taken seriously by the media and frankly he put off a lot of casual fans. And RJJ was a serious cherry picker, dont get wrong his skills are undeniable but his fights sucked ass. so i will stick by my statement the best thing since SRL, i know threads like these must annoy Floyd fans, but Floyd is to reluctant for his own good and history will look down on him if he does not start taking some serious challenges really soon
YEAH !!!! woohooo, sarcasm doesnt come out well so I just said it ! Mannys done nothing to bring the sport of boxing back to the mainstream, if anything, he is just bringing attention to the sport because hes making history, but to bring it back mainstream we need more than one boxer.
thats true but its still a a start when one or two fighters starts getting regular coverage like Floyd and Pac seem to be getting. so it's still a positive and hopefully the momentum will continue with guys like Haye in the heavyweight division and the success of the super six and so forth
very good to go into work on monday and speak to casual fans who watched the fight. Usually the fights from the US not involving UK fighters are missed by people but quite a few people I work with went out there way to watch Pacman. There all hyped now for the Mayweather fight.
He is a super star yet the general media doesnt give him **** coverage. The newspaper had a small article with no pictures on page 6 of the sports section. It pisses me off.
I read an article about all the stars that were out in vegas during the fight. You know the general public goes where the stars are at for a glimpse. I know Vegas did well!
I understand how you feel Bronx whenever I get my sunday paper and I see a boxing article even if its just a small snippet of a local fighter on his way up, I get excited. Pacquiao/Mayweather needs to happen its boxing's 2nd chance to be back with the mainstream.
Haha... try being a Knicks fan... :verysad Anyway, I agree with bronx... he's great for the sport, and I absolutely love it. It's great that people talk about boxing again. When I tell people I watch a lot of boxing, they look at me like I have 10 heads. And I think any attention will be good. Even if Pac retires after 1-2 more fights, the hype of the sport will be around, and we'll still have things like the Super 6 to keep a LITTLE hype going. It's a great time to be a boxing fan right now, I think...
Not only does it need ti happen it also needs to be exciting. In other words it needs to be a Pacquiao type fight, not a Floyd type fight. A Floyd snoozefeast, even if he wins, would just be a nail in the coffin.
