IMO - your argument doesn't stack up. It wasn't just a case of the money - he genuinely felt he could beat Mayweather. I've gone off him quite a bit in the past year for various reasons, but to say he ducked Witter and fought Mayweather instead is just absurd. Say he fought Witter instead of Mayweather..... so what, he beat a #1 contender, he would then have a mandatory for the WBC and the Floyd fight would have slipped away. It was too good an opportunity to turn down regardless of the money - Witter wouldn't have done all that much for his resume anyway. Dare I say it, he was a bit of a flash in the pan. What live, decent opponents did Witter beat above say, European level? :think If you are a premiership footballer and get a chance of champions league or championship, what are you gonna choose? We criticise Joe Calzaghe for sticking with his WBO and fighting whoever was lined up rather than seeking challenges elsewhere...... so why should we get on Hatton's case for doing the opposite?
You pathetic twat, just because I am a fulham fan it does not mean I wouldnt sit next to (trying to think of a non **** chelsea player here) Joe Cole or erm, someone else. I have also worn other teams scarfs and dont see an issue with it.
:nono The only people clamouring for the fight were a handful of Witter fans, and Hatton haters who just want to discredit his career. The screaming for a match-up myth has been around way, way before Lazcano or Malignagi came into view...there was zero chance that Hatton would face Witter after the Tszyu fight, Hatton was on a different earning planet after that.....Hatton was filling stadiums whilst Witter was barely filling a phone box. The only time that this fight had a chance of being made was 8-9 years ago, lets all just get over it.
These fights don't even compare: Floyd Vs Manny - Two top P4P fighter that will make millions from the fight Hatton Vs Witter - Hatton brings all the fans(except the 6 witter fans), PPV, all the interest and brings all the cash in. Floyd & Manny have something to gain from fighting each other what has Hatton got gain from fighting Witter after Mayweather or anywhere after Kostya? Nothing Hatton isn't an idiot. I have had enough Witter Vs Hatton debates on this site to see both sides and settle for my own middle ground.
This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected For the record (yet again) I respect R. Hatton and i think he was a decent world level operator...who became a champ at 140, not many people or fighters can say that...but he is not an all time great, and he is not amongst the elite of this division nor any division surrounding it, and if we did not have so many divisions i can assure you he would not have become champion as far better fighters around were fighting for the various titles....an example of 135, 140, 147....12 major titles in a 12 pound difference? Its laughable.
Mythical: Not real. In this instance, weight divisions that are entirely in your mind. Not mythical: 140lbs, Light Welterweight. A real weight division that has been around for well over 60 years. My (or anyone elses for that matter) love of Ricky Hatton didn't bring Light Welterweight into existence. Your argument always seems to end up at the Heeavyweights and with you trying to convince everyone that if you think the existing divisions are fine then you MUST want more divisions at Heavyweight. Its plainly not true and you're just putting words into peoples mouths to make what they are saying seem unreasonable when they've really said nothing of the sort. "Oh, if you say this, then you really must be saying that....."......Well no, I don't really mean that because I didn't say that!!! Your final argument of 12 titles between 135-147 is one of multiple governing bodies (which are self-serving leeches on the sport), not weight divisions (which are there for the fighters safety). You should be a lot more concerned with the former than the latter if you really want to cut down on spurious titles.
Who said Ricky should have fought Witter instead of Mayweather???? I agree that would be absurd.... the same if he'd have fought Witter instead of Manny. What I'm saying is that Ricky should have fought Witter instead of one of these: Rowsell Krivalopov Smith Hutchinson Phillips Rios Tackie Pedersen Vilches Stewart Oliveira Castillo Lazcano Malignaggi Hattons been involved in some humungous fights (PBF, Tszyu and Manny), but if you remove those 3 from his 47 fight record there are very few good prime fighters on it. I'm a BIG British Boxing fan and I like to see the best of British square off against each other, especially when they're right at the top of the World division rankings
Hardly, I am a massive Witter fan, yet you are actually making me cringe by attempting to make Juniors case for a Hatton fight...its embarrassing, please stop:good
I think at the time Hatton fought a lot of those guys, Witter wasn't even on the landscape, in 'rehab' after the shocker against Judah. Phillips and Tackie are two quality wins IMO, Krivalopov also to a lesser degree. The likes of Pedersen and Vilches are pretty much inexcusable, unless they were short notice jobs or stay busy/tune up fights - I can't remember the circumstances to be fair. I like to see the best British fighters fighting each other also, but I don't see why many people (fighters, promoters, everyone really) make such a big deal about beating absolutely everyone before moving onwards and upwards. When Witter won the WBC he could have looked to unify the title and force a fight with Hatton..... instead he got a bull**** first defence against a journeyman - looking **** in getting rid of him, before beating Harris impressively and coming unstuck against Bradley. After bitching about Hatton's choice of a comeback opponent in Lazcano, he chose a great guy himself, some Argy who did a Gary Lockett :-(
I'm not particularly a Witter fan, but you've got to be the worst Witter fan on the planet if you can't make a case for him getting his much deserved fight with Hatton :deal Personally that's what I'd call 'embarrassing' :deal Hatton himself said he'd fight Junior once he won a World belt (amongst other stipulations that he gave Junior), but he soon changed his tune when Witter beat Corley :deal I see you've give up trying to argue your case now your just throwing insults about, that's fair enough though maybe you haven't got the intellect to form an argument :hi:
