Who Do You Think Takes This Guys?

Could the anvil chinned Mercer stay up from Haye's punching power and score a TKO victory like he did against Morrision and Francesco Damiani?

    Or does Haye KO Ray?

My answer is yes. I think he'd survive Haye's onslaughts and perhaps even catch him at some point, though a Haye decision is certainly possible.

On another note - Were you sober when you spelled Mercer in the thread title?

    Corrected.

I have a feeling Mercer would stand up to Haye's onslaught's and tire him out and then stop him. Similar to the Carl Thompson fight.

Mercer would stop him. I'm not convinced Haye can keep up the boxing against anyone other than a slow gargantuan. Mercer was (fairly) quick, has the chin and punches to get to Haye. The jab he wobbled Holmes with would stop Haye.

I think Mercer is pretty underrated........Good solid fighter. anvil chin, tough and big punch.

mercer bullied lewis who was a very good outside/inside fighter and a massive puncher to boot and scraped away with a win.

haye i think could land some heavy bombs maybe wobble mercer in the most literal sense (weight of the punch) but mercer i think could catch him slow him down and stop him hard.

I'll be convinced that Haye is good enough to be hypothetically matched against a prime, world class heavyweight when I see him beat one. And no, Valuev and Barrett don't count.

I agree. There is just a huge question mark with this guy, and after seeing him in the Valueav fight Im not convinced he will easily defeat Ruiz.

He WILL defeat Ruiz. he can keep at mid-range, break him down by peppering him with shots and stop him late IMO

If properly motivated Mercer (see: Lewis, Morrison NOT Ferguson) takes Haye out in about 8 rounds. The problem is Mercer was a bit spotty when it comes to preparation and motivation.

I'm not so sure. Ruiz will be aware of Haye's power and will use every ugly trick in the book at close range to try and stop him. A great fighter he ain't, but he just has that way of being horribly effective and making an opponent lose the will to live. Haye isn't a particularly good ring general like Jones or Toney and might easily get drawn into a wrestling match.

Still, he has the power to hurt Ruiz, so I live in hope.

Ray Mercer is a really bad match-up for Haye. He had great skills of his own from his amateur days, and as we all know, he walked through Morrison's best shots before damn near killing the man. I see the exact same thing here, Haye does well early, landing hard right hands, but I see Mercer taking Haye's best shots, and having the hand speed and ring savvy to get inside on Haye and land his own...and then he shuts Haye down.

Haye likes to wrestle himself. Any heavy has the power to get to Haye, but I'm not convinced Ruiz has the power to chuck Haye off his mid-range, speed-based gameplan.

I think Mercer's best effort was the Holyfield fight by far.
He was actually too fat against Lennox Lewis.

And I wouldn't write his loss to Ferguson off so readily. I saw the Ferguson rematch where Mercer was in-shape and must have been motivated, and he barely beat Ferguson then.
