All the best Ricky and Billy. Is this promotion on Burns night itself??? If it's not it sould be:D 25th is'nt it. Anyway good luck. Ricky defo has the tools to win but I thought that Martinez looked pretty tasty on the Barrera bill.
Will be rooting for a Burns win however it comes:good

scottish boxing is looking heathy at present for such a wee nation, when burns becomes world champion it will give everyone a big boost just like when scott was champion,it will be great to emulate those days as ricky as worked hard to put himself were he is.

I'm made up for Ricky getting his shot, if he sticks to boxing Martinez he should pull it off. I'm there anyway, should be a good night.

Ricky reflecting on lost opportunity but vows to clinch title

Nov 18 2009 by Colin Paterson, Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser
DETERMINED Ricky Burns has promised to win the vacant British super-featherweight title as a reward to the fans let down by boxing show promoters.
The Coatbridge bruiser’s planned scrap with Londoner Kevin Mitchell at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle was sensationally pulled last week.
Instead of defending his belt, Mitchell gave up the title in order to face Colombian Breidis Prescott, with the winner earning a showdown with world champion Roman Martinez.
The decision meant Burns, currently holder of Commonwealth belt, was removed from the December 5 bill, but the 25-year-old was reinstated after a hastily-arranged eight-round bout was scheduled, with his opponent to be confirmed.
In a bid to ease the disappointment, Burns has been informed that he will land a shot at the British super-featherweight crown at the end of January, with Glasgow a possible venue.
He told the Advertiser: “It was a difficult few days. One minute I was told the Mitchell fight was off and I was off the bill.
“And then the next I was told to get ready for an eight-rounder with a view to fighting for the British title early next year.
“I didn’t know if I was coming or going.
“I feel really sorry for my fans who have already booked train tickets and hotels. They have been messed about and deserve an apology.
“The guys who organise the shows for television say my support is superb and provide a great atmosphere.
“My supporters didn’t deserve to be put through all this.”
Burns, though, is determined to his fans proud and bring the British title back to his home town.
“I will make sure my head is clear when I go in for the British fight.
“All I know is that the title will be brought back to Coatbridge at the end of the evening.”

That story was from last week and when I spoke to Ricky on Sunday it was still the British title he was talking about. The story about the World title only came out on Monday or Tuesday
