I dont disagree with any of this, but I think you're painting a fairly rosy picture of Leonard though... the bigger ring in the Hagler fight and it being over 12 rather than 15 were conditions of the fight being made I believe...

I'm pretty certain he didn't fancy Hagler in 1982 either when Marvellous was at his best.

Leonard isn't that different to either Mayweather or Pacquiao really if truth be told - not as blatant, granted.

Leonard is quite a lot different to Mayweather. Leonard fought Hagler, Hearns, Camacho, Duran and Benitez. Giants of the sport.

Mayweather hasn't fought the best for many years now. He's cherrypicked his way through welterweight. He got away with fighting Judah and then Baldomir because it was for the lineal title, which was fortunate...never seen a worse lineal champ at 147. Then he cherrypicked Hatton who looked like **** at welter the first time. Then he went to face De La Hoya and did a far less impressive job than Pacquiao. He just needs to fight the best guys.

I like him and always have, I just wish he had took on some bigger names at welterweight. In my opinion he would have beaten them all.

I like him too, I route for him as I don't feel like he gets anything like the respect and credit he deserves. Also I would like to see him do his talent justice with some more big wins.

If Mosley can maintain the level of performance he showed against Margarito, I'm almost certain he would stop Floyd.

nah, Cotto had Margarito all over the show before he started getting wore down, Cotto outboxed Shane :good

I seriously think the only guy who'd seriously trouble Floyd is Paul Williams at Light Middle. Floyd would handle him at Welter but go up another 7lbs and its anyones :good

Floyd's never fought anyone with the strength of Shane. He has the kind of power that can hurt you even when you block. Mayweather also doesn't have the power to discourage Shane, unlike Cotto.

What makes you so sure Floyd could "handle" Paul Williams at welter but not at 154? He's not that really much of a different fighter at the different weights, he's just freakly like that. Again, where's the precedent to suggest Floyd can handle a big guy like that?

what allot of people fail to recognise is that Mayweather weighs 147 at the weigh in, and 147 in the ring. When he was at Light Welter he weighed 140 at the weigh in, 140 in the ring. When he faced Oscar De La Hoya at Light Middleweight he was actually 148 when he went in.

To expect him to fight Paul Williams, Margorito, Cotto, Mosley who will be 160+ when they enter when you think about it is crazy.

Bring back same day weigh in and lets see if Williams would except a Mayweather fight?

So what are saying Rob? That we should change the rules for Mayweather or that he should be allowed to keep fighting other guys moving up, so he can have the weight advantage?

Most ridiculous post you've ever made, and that's saying something.

  12. I think it alludes to a larger and more crucial point - that Floyd is and never has been a big welterweight. People criticise him for not fighting against enough 'genuine' welters but he isn't a genuine welter himself. He started at super-feather and in a 13 year career he has only spent the last 4 years at welter - 2 of which were in 'retirement', and he even won 2 welter titles and a went up to win a light-middle title in that period. Its pretty harsh to critcise him and its not really an argument. The guy would deal with Cotto, Margarito and Mosley easily and he cant fight everyone. He fought marquez after 2 years out and JMM is a three weight world champion who was stepping up much like pacman is so i think that wasn't an easy fight to take. If he made it look easy, its cos he's so bloody good.

I can't believe that in this era, when fans are far more savvy to the realities of money and fight negotiations, that people still even use the phrase 'ducking'. It's nonsense.

Rob also thinks Mayweather's the greatest defensive boxer ever born. If Floyd chooses to fight at welterweight, he should fight welterweights.

I think Floyd is a bigger welterweight than Pac and didn't Mayweather come in over the 144 lb catch weight limit against JMM ?

  15. Which he has done.

Think about what you've said there. Should Valuev not have fought Haye because he is a cruiserweight? Should Hagler have never fought Duran because he was a lightweight? It's top fighters against top fighters.
