It just shows that he is not a "small" welterweight as some are claiming!

I’m not sure what point you’re making here – that he can’t carry the weight? If he’s not a genuine welter, he should campaign at 140. He clearly can’t, or is unwilling to, make that weight. He beat Judah and Baldomir (a huge WW), so he’s clearly effective at the weight.

It’s not harsh at all. He campaigns at welter and he won’t face the best welters out there. Manny Pacquiao only ventured above 140 for the first time last year and in that time has beaten Oscar, the Ring recognised LWW at his natural weight, and Cotto at WW. Manny’s clearly not a big welter either, he just doesn’t use it as an excuse for not taking challenges.

No, he beat Marquez because he had every single advantage in the fight – it was a mismatch. Marquez had no chance of beating Floyd. JMM was most effective at super-feather, and jumped two divisions to fight Floyd.

Why can’t Mayweather fight everyone at least worthwhile? There’s no opponents that would be in the way of a Mosley fight, other than Manny, and he doesn’t seem too keen on that either.

I can’t believe in this era, when fans are more ‘savvy’ to media manipulation and spin, that they still think Floyd has proven he’s “so bloody good.” If he could “handle” Margo, Mosley and Cotto, why not fight them and prove it?

He deserves all the criticism he gets. You're right about one thing though, Floyd's excuses are nonsense.

  4. How? Because he's bigger than Pac who's stepped up multiple division himself? Because he didn't make 144 - 3 pounds UNDER the 147 welter limit??

Don't think it really does show that does it.

And the fact he didnt make 144 doesn't mean he couldn't make it either...

He has spent the last 4 years at welterweight is proof that he is a genuine welter now... It's not like he has just moved upto welter recently!

  6. The point is not that he's not a genuine welter, the point, as already said, is that in the 4 years he's been at that weight he has spent two in retirement and in the other two he has beaten two welters to win two world titles, stepped up to win a light-middle title and beaten the no.1 fighter at light-welter and then in his comeback fight beaten a 3 weight woorld champ. What's to criticise? Mosley has turned down fights with him in the past. Margarito was a WBO champ and a nobody when Mayweather fought Baldomir for the WBC and then he was banned when he came back. There's only Cotto who he might have fought and look at how he's performed recently. Its no big deal that Floyd's not managed to add him to his list of wins.

  7. Well Floyd's beaten two of those and also added two welterweight titles in the process. See above post. Who should he have fought?

Probably because he's a five weight world champion who's beaten the likes of Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, Judah, De la Hoya, Hatton and Marquez.

Beaten two welters for titles? Who? I honestly can't remember.

He beat the number one lww. At ww.

And saying he beat a 3 weight champ on his comeback id taking the ****.

The biggest weight marquez won at was 12 pounds lighter!

GrovesVDegale obviously thinks Floyd deserves some special dispensation for not being a big welter. It just seems people like him, and hordes of other fans, only want what's best for Floyd and not boxing. They assume he could beat the guys he hasn't fought and thus are quite happy for him to pick up cash in JMM type fights. I don't understand this kind of sycophantism.

  10. After beating Sharmba Mitchell at welter he beat judah for the IBF title and then Baldomir in a unification fight for the WBC title.

Don't forget Hatton had won the WBA welter title and was unbeaten when Floyd KO'd him.

I can't be arsed to get into the Marquez mismatch debate

  11. It's quite the opposite. I'm not his biggest fan as you assume, are you simply a hater as I assume?

It's not special dispensation, its a reality check. I ask again, who should he have fought at Welter?

The Marquez fight was after a two year absence. he could have been forgiven for taking aten round tune-up. it did 1 million ppv buys - how is that bad for boxing? And the guy had won world titles at 3 different weights, didn't he deserve a chance just like pacman did? Indeed, some people even picked him to beat Floyd.

He fought Judah who had just lost to Baldomir. It wasn't a unification match as Floyd gave up the IBF title rather than face Cintron.

Hatton had won the title in a fight he struggled badly in and some felt he lost. Floyd didn't fight him at the weight he was used to, I know Hatton had the chance for that but that doesn't change the fact Floyd beat Hatton at weight where he wasn't at his optimum.

That's because there is no argument; it was a total mismatch and waste of time. JMM was forced to sacrifice all the attributes that made him succesful at the lower weights.

No but you're obviously another alias.

How about this for a reality check? Floyd's a welter, has won titles at welter and can no longer fight below welter, therefore, he should fight welters.

He should have fought Cotto before he took his two year layoff when he was still undefeated. He should have fought Margarito when there was a nice fat pay cheque (8 mil) on the table.

People who picked JMM to beat Floyd must either know nothing about boxing or JMM fans deluding themselves (more acceptable).

  14. All your points are 'picking holes' in the guy's wins. You can do that for almost any fighter mate. Hell, why don't we rundown Ali's record or Leonard's, or Pacman's? Because there's no point, you look at the facts. And he beat Hatton, who had won at welter. He beat DLH at DLH's weight, on his terms. We'll have to disagree about the JMM fight, I'm not getting into it, but the bottom line is, if that fight had happened when floyd was at Super-feather or Lightweight, would it have been significantly different. I have to say no. Mayweather is technical superior and faster.

You still haven't answered, who should he have fought at welter??

  15. No, i'm not another alias.

I've already answered this. And you CAN'T reply! He DID fight welters. He won TWO welter titles!

Again, Baldomir was a for the WBC title and the guy had just beaten Gatti and Judah. Margarito was no one at that time. He was WBO champ and hadn't fought a name. Cotto was his biggest fight and that was 2 years later! Floyd got 12 mil for fighting Baldomir. It's at easy choice.

Ah, Cotto. I agree. It would have been nice to have seen Mayweather v Cotto after the Hatton fight. I agree. i'm not going to get all angry and upset that it didn't happen though and start saying Mayweather is ducking everyone!!
