Totally BS boring fight. Two southpaws...one who can't punch with awkward defense(but good) and the other who leads with his head and can't box a lick, but who can punch......:-(

Whitaker wins bigger than he should have won against Chavez. Whitaker's jab is the key difference.

 

Whittaker clearly wins, especially in his prime.

On the other thing though i do agree that a prime Manny Pacquiao is a better fighter than a prime Oscar De La Hoya.

Pacquiao likes to stand toe to toe and trade punches with whoever he is fighting. If you look at the later rounds against Cotto when he was fighting off the back foot, boxing and moving out of range (surviving). There was more than one occasion when Manny stopped and hit his hands together in frustration. Pacquiao has never fought against someone as elusive as Whitaker (or Floyd for that matter) and I think he would find it a difficult proposition and a frustrating night. I see Pac flying out in the first 2 or 3 rounds and then slowly being picked apart.

 

sweet pea lost 3 rounds to a past prime chavez. Im sure manny would win atleast 5 rounds and would KD sweet pea twice.

The first round when Cotto was being dominant with his jab is a pretty good indication of where this would go.

Pea has the chin/defensive radar/consistent jab/inside game(which pac doesn't seem to have to be honest) handspeed and punch variety PLUS his ruthlessness when he had an opponent hurt which basically add up to as bad a matchup as I can think of for Pac.

Maybe Pea gets knocked down. Lesser fighters/punchers did that. But for me, Pea's jab, movement and ring generalship keep Pac at bay.

117-111, something like that. Would probably get closer as they go up, but Pea still showed enough to me at Welter (and against Vasquez at JMW, which I had 6 rounds apiece bar the deductions) to make me think that he was still effective enough post-135lbs to outwit Manny.

I loathe this sort of comment. Mostly I hear it bandied around regarding fighters with well-protected zeroes. "He always finds a way to win", "he just doesn't know how to lose", etc. What a lot of absolute bollocks. Just because someone beat the opponents they did fight doesn't mean that history is not abound with other men who could've and would've soundly thrashed them. As much as I adore Manny P, Pernell Whitaker beats him 10 times out of 10.

well, Manny's two-handed which is one main thing he has over Oscar, who only seemed to prod with his right and when he made a conscious effort to use it later it seemed to stunt his rhythm (IMO)

I wouldn't want to make a call yet. at Welter I don't know, but at 135/140 I'm tempted to say Manny beats the **** out of him. However, Oscar COULD get on his bike when he needed to, don't know whether he'd win a decision regardless of his effectiveness though. I personally feel Oscar was at his best around 140/147, although...........AAGH!!! I've lost myself, to be honest I need to think about this

Manny's much higher-placed on my ATG list put it that way.

Anyways, Popkins, Asero is the biggest Pac-lover on ESB. He's Filipino I believe, so fair play to him for supporting his countryman (I wish Pac was from England)

To give you an indication of how **** a poster he is he once said something along the lines of 'Arce was being outboxed by Carbajal and only just saved the fight at the end' showing me he hadn't actually watched the fight and had no f'n clue what he was talking about.

There are hundreds of other examples HOWEVER (and I have no doubt about this)
