For those who lack historical perspective...Duran's run at LW is similar Hopking at Middle without the RJJ loss. Then imagine Hopkins goes up to beat the 2nd best LHW ever. Not Tarver, not Wright, I'm talking Archie Moore.

Then imagine he goes up to beat a big strong natural HW, whilst winning a title at another weight as well. I wonder where he'd be ranked then?? Below Pac? Don't make me laugh.

The crticism of Duran from these naive historians seems to be that he lost to the other greats - what did you expect?? You have a top 3 all time LW...a top 2 all time WW (who he actually beat)...the greatest ever LMW....and a top 3 MW. Hagler has wins over 2 of these 3 but I'm confident in saying had he moved up to LHW, he's have lost to Spinks. This doesn't detract from his greatness.

Duran does have an excuse for every fight, and I personally doubt he'd ever have beaten Hearns or Hagler, but neither should he.

Bernie, your insistance that the trio of JMM, EM, MAB are equal to Leonard, Hagler and Hearns is only mirrored in idiocy by your dismissal of how good Buchanan is. You're an all round terrible poster who said Palomino was a great LW, we haven't forgotten.

Some terrible posting in this forum.

Excellent post overall. Just thought I'd chime in that the fighters Duran consistently beat at LW, particularly the best guys like Buchanan and De Jesus, were of a much higher quality than the ones Hopkins beat at MW.

I don't run to boxrec for every post I make, and I fully admit that all I know about Palomino is that he was a good, but not great, fighter who fought below MW. So the **** what? I'm supposed to be a Palomino scholar?

Hagler never went above MW that I can recall, he drew with Antefeurmo, his best wins were against a former LW and a former WW, and he lost to a former WW. **** him, he's nearly as overrated as Duran. MAB, EM and JMM were DEFINITELY greater than Hagler, Hearns is debateable, SRL is a step above everyone except Ali, Armstrong and SRR. I know it's difficult, especially on this board, to get Duran's nutsack off your eyeballs long enough to see reality, but there it is.

Yep, and his run at LW wasn't nearly as good a quality as Pac's run at FW.

Morales is an ATG, no shame in that. His last great hurrah and greatest victory.

If all you really know is he fought below MW, how can you know how great he is??

You put far too much emphasis on weight jumping in your ATG criteria as well.

You don't have to read many of your posts to see you don't know that much about boxing.

What run? He beat an out of form Barrera and drew with Marquez. If you want to include his 122 and 130 pound runs you can add Ledwaba, a past his best Morales who beat him in the first fight, another win over an increasingly shop-worn Barrera, and a controversial win over Marquez. A shot Oscar Larios and average Jorge Solis are hardly even worth mentioning, but I'll do so for your argument's sake.

You think that's enough to offset a 7 year reign spanning nearly 40 fights, with wins over Ken Buchanan, Esteban De Jesus, Guts Ishimatsu, Hiroshi Kobayashi, Edwin Viruet, Ray Lampkin, Saoul Mamby, Emiliano Villa, Vilomar Fernandez, Hector Thompson, etc. How about his win over all time great Panamanian slickster Ernesto Marcel at 18 years old?! That win in itself is better than any Pacquiao achievement, and he did so when he was still a teenager.

Don't make me get into the rest.

I do? That's funny, considering about 45% of Duran's greatness is one single victory, another 45% is his weight jumping and longevity, and 10% is what he accomplished outside of that one fight and his process of growing older and bigger.
