See, you're going for the amateur accountant bit again, a common theme with Floyd fans. Most boxing fans don't worry about Floyd making a few extra mil because there's an angle to a fight, they just want to see him fight the best in his own weight class. Obviously that was a churlish comment on my part, but I do believe that the Mosley who beat Margarito would stop Floyd.
No, I want to see him fight the best full stop. He is a guy who's jumped divisions, I wanna see him take on the best guys out there, and those are invariably the guys who have jumped divisions and proven their worth against the best fighters in each. Margarito, Cotto and Clottey had not done that. And if he fought the IBF welter champ and the WBC welter champ who are they? Are they not two of the best in his weight class?? The reality is, he's taken on good fighters and hard fights. Are there other hard fights out there for him? Yes. But he can't fight them all. How can you criticise him for fighting De La Hoya at light middle for the WBC rather than Cotto at welter for the WBO? Either fight is a hard fight. There's just not an argument there. And now he has to fight Pacman, who you'll say is smaller and not a genuine welter. So when he beats him, who does he fight? Tell me. Should he fight Cotto who's already been demolished? Margarito who's lost to Mosley whilst cheating or fight Mosley who's already lost 5 times, is 38 and has turned down fights in the past? Face it, you don't like the guy. That's the bottom line. If he beats Pacman next you'll say Pac was too small. If he beats Mosley, you'll say he was too old. You want him to fight Williams because you can only see someone beating him via stoppage, a bigger guy. Maybe he should step up to cruiser and take on Hopkins? And don't say i'm trolling when i'm writing on a Mayweather thread for the first time and when you're the one who's floating anti-Mayeather sentiment on a pro-Mayweather thread.
His fights since Welter have been frustrating,his attitude is equally as frustrating. Here's a man who has openly stated its not about his legacy,its about the money. How can any true fight fan defend this type of nonsense? He says he's the very best to ever lace up the gloves but refuses to rule out fighting Hatton in a rematch??? WTF!!
Cotto was the WBA titleholder when he fought Oscar and he was undefeated. That said, I don't have a problem with him taking that fight, and it's not at that time when he gets the crticism for not fighting Cotto. It's leaving the sport at a time when there were great fights to be had in his own division, where he was lineal champ, that I have a problem with. So because Mosley lost five times (against three different opponents, none of which Floyd has faced) you don't want to see him in with Mayweather? It's on points like this Floyd fans draw their distinction with boxing fans; most boxing fans want to see the best fighting the best. My feelings about his personality are irrelavent, I just want him to fight the best on his own weight class. I've already stated clearly on this thread how I think fights will go against the aforementioned opponents, so you can come back and remind me of that if I was to try and detract from Flod should be beat them. Hell, I'll be impressed with Floyd just for signing for those fights. If Williams can make 147, what's wrong with Floyd fighting him? It's hard to really defend Floyd without making excuses. Cotto beat Mosley just before Mayweather beat Hatton. The Margarito fight hadn't been inked at that point, so Floyd could have gotten the fight since he was the premier attraction in boxing at that stage, besides Oscar. Cotto would have been an excellent mark on his resume, but he didn't want the fight. He could have agreed to fight the winner of Cotto-Margo, but chose to sit it out by 'retiring', which to any educated observer was clearly misdirection and a good opportunity to avoid a difficult fight. So, he retires, then comes back. I have no problem that he wanted a tune-up, but couldn't it have been... I don't know - against a welterweight? Instead he picks a much smaller guy, with no stylistic or physical advantages, who needs to jump up two weight divisions to face him. Then he sells it as a competitive difficult fight? Insulting. I wouldn't have even minded that if he had taken the opportunity to then clear out the division, but all he's done is say who he won't fight, and why he won't fight them. How can you respect that attitude?
