There is absolutely nothing you can say that will change people's minds about Duran. You can point out that he gained weight naturally, and was well settled in at the weight for all of his fights against the high level guys. You can point out that Benitez handled him easily. You can point out the fact that his resume gets awfully thin to be rated so high and his whole legacy basically rests on one fight where SRL got stupid. It doesn't matter.

Duran worship is a mental disorder. More manlove than anything else. Kind of like Pryor worship :nut I would say that the same people who hate Barrera, ODLH etc, the boxers with the clean or upper class image, are the guys who love Duran and Pryor and for the same reason. They hated SRL's pretty boy, clean cut image. They prefer a low-class, thugged out type of fighter.

Oh my bad:patsch I forgot about Andy Price but i that was only Palominos 12 th fight. Mccoy worked with Mando Ramos from the beginning who actually had very good boxing skills and probably would have been a Great fighter had he not had his bad habits outside the ring.Don Jordan also had good boxing skills. The rest of his guys were sluggers.
Not to get of the subject of this thread, but I was happy to hear someone mention Rudy Zavala(RIP) we went to High School together and are from the same city(ROSEMEAD,CA) His dad actually trained him and He didnt go to that gym in in Westminster until later in his career. Rudy was a good guy and was still fighting up until he passed away,I remember being excited every time he fought ESPN telling every one thats my Homie. He was a good puncher but was in over his head against Mckinney, but he had some good wins on the way up,before eventually becoming a tough Journeyman.

You mentioned going to school with Rudy Zavala. Yeah he was nice guy, very quiet. I met him. My friend trained at Westminster in the early 1990's and I went with him and saw Rudy training near the ring. He was a very serious quiet guy from what I could tell, and when my friend and I were leaving we were outside in front of the gym near the door and Rudy was walking out and I shook hands with him. I made a point to because I thought this guy is gonna be champ. I was surprised when Kennedy won that fight. Rudy could punch. I was glad to meet him. That is when I lived in that area near Westminster in those years. You mentioned Mando Ramos, I was sorry to hear he passed away last year. When I went to the World Boxing Hall of Fame in Commerce some years ago I used to see another great fighter Armando Muniz who fought both Palomino and Leonard. He looked like a young version of my grandfather. I couldn't get that out of my head when I saw him. He is tied to the Hall of Fame somehow. Saw a lot of top fighters there. Emile Griffith even. Never saw Thomas Hearns, but met Emanual Steward. I saw Duran from a distance in Los Angeles a few year ago when he was inducted. If anyone lives in Los Angeles area go to the World Boxing Hall of Fame dinner in the month of October usually-and even if you don't go to the dinner since it is like 80 dollars, just go to the before dinner events. You can meet all these fighters and take pictures. Pretty cool. I don't go much anymore, since I do not live close to that area. But it was cool.

obviously im not the only one that feels that way. durans a great fighter and one of my favs, but i'd have to put pac ahead of him on the atg list. pac beat the legends in his era. duran fought the legends but went 1-5 by his careers end. btw, pac isnt done just yet.

im sorry. if u wanna be an atg, especially top 10 (like alot of people have him), u have to beat the greats. and just stepping in the ring, isnt enough. as u said yourself, no former lightweight in history has a chance in hell at beating hearns or hagler, so "YOU" say. with that statement u concede that hagler and hearns were better than duran. then why is duran put above hearns and hagler so often?? he fought the greats and lost. then he shouldnt be put on the same plateau as the greats. yes he beat buchanan, dejesus, barkley, etc. but theyre:hi: not considered greats---like srl, hagler, etc..

ok he dominated that division. but just because he dominated that division at that time does not put him at the top of the atg list. prob 20-30, in my book. but top 10?? i respectfully disagree. and people say duran was to small to fight hearns, hagler, or srl. but manny was the smaller fighter as well. thats a fact. the excuses that everyone gives duran for his losses are subjective, not fact. btw, if durans wins those big fights, i would be the first one to put him at top 10, at least, if not more. :huh

Yey Rudy looked real good coming up when he brutally kod former champ Pedro Decima,he was known in school as a boxer, and won many golden glove titles when he was still in High School,he was raised in here but born in Mexico and went out for the olympic team there losing to Gabriel Ruelas in the Trials (another Angeleno born in Mexico). He was killed about 10 years ago on the freeway changing a tire or something.
Thats a trip you mentioned the WBHOF banquet dinner i used to go there every year during the late 90s and early part of the decade. Always got comped there by a few people i know on the board of directors. Mostly from Johnny "the Flash"Ortiz who had a Radio show in LA back then. Ive mentioned on this forum a few times to fans who live on the West Coast that this is a great place to meet all the greats and get pictures taken and Memorabilia signed. I have numerous pictures and SOme Gloves signed by over 30former greats or champs. Mando Ramos was a great guy and he always had great stories. If Johnny Ortiz didnt get me in the Vip Partys after Mando Muniz would,I think I heard hes like president know or something like that. Ive lost touch with some people but I intend to go next year.
Sorry to get of the subject of this thread guys just had to reply to this. Maybe i will send you a PM next time MAG 1965

I have actually stopped trying to make my point on this thread. I think Duran is a Top 3or4 ATG and if the Duran Haters dont see it by now, they never will:patsch Although I think Very highly of Manny and I dont believe he is Overrated at all, until they start saying he would have beat Duran or should be above him. If Manny were to retire today id Put him anywhere between 8 and 15.

Ok yeah send me a PM anytime. What is interesting is that a friend from New York told me about this dinner in I think 1998, I didn't know. The upstate New York one was the only one I knew of- I have never been to that one. I always had a great time at the WBHOF-twice I went to the dinner, as you know it is great walking around and seeing another fighter around every corner. That's great you got into the VIP Party. I went from 1998 to a few years back but usually just stood outside the ballroom before the banquet. As you know it keeps changing locations from the Marriott at LAX to the Boneventure to the Commerce Casino, to Ontario and then now at the Marriott this year. Moves around. I started going the year Shane and Vargas got fighter of the year together. I think that is what happened. You mentioned Decima, I spoke to Paul Banke some years back when he was there. Banke/Decima at the forum in 1990 was a great fight-I went to that live and it was great. Sorry everyone I got off topic. Take care.

The excuses you make for Leonard are truly pathetic & no doubt you must sit there every night with a shook up bottle of bud-lite with SRL's face on the labal jammed up yer arse.

    LEONARD NOT PRIME IN MONTREAL:rofl:nut YOU'RE A ****IN MORON:deal
