Vicente Saldivar Khaosai Galaxy Benny Lynch James Toney Jeff Fenech i do not have these guys in my top 100
Rodrigo Valdez and Esteban De Jesus are the two main ones for me. Without Monzon & Duran, I'd expect them both to have ended up with legacies of two-time champions with seven or eight title defences. Top tens of their respective divisions.
Sumbu Kalambay. Great record, great skills, but perhaps his one round knockout defeat at the hands of Nunn really ruined it for him. If he had beaten Nunn, we're all be acknowledging him as an ATG in my estimation, with wins over undefeated McCullum, undefeated Graham, undefeated Nunn, and outclassing a green Steve Collins.
I had to look twice to make sure I'd read it right. :fire Incidentally, Winstone would have been a longstanding champion and definite all time great IMO had he not had the misfortune to come along at the same time as Saldivar. As it is, he's a fighter who had all time great skills but not the overall subsequent career to match.
Am I alone in thinking Juan Manuel Marquez still has some work to do before he can be considered an ATG, or has he done enough?
He's an excellent fighter, not a great one imo. I think it's unlikely at his age he'll be able to do much more now.Could be wrong though.
Juan Manuel Marquez? I don't consider him done yet, he was outclassed by Floyd Mayweather Jr. He can still beat a Ricky Hatton, and win a title at 140lbs in my judgment..and if he manages that, we can then start talking about him being great. Being the first Mexican to win titles in 4 divisions is hard to argue with.
He's a borderline all time great, just not in the upper tier. Barrera (future HOFer) Diaz Juarez Casamayor Medina Polo Gainer Salido Peden Depending on your opinion of the Pacquiao and John fights - he looked **** in the latter but won both the Pac fights IMO - you have a very respectable ledger of wins there. Even if the Norwood loss coupled with MAB and Casamayor being past their respective bests do him no favours. He'll probably struggle to do any more though at this stage of his career.
The light welter division is as weak as **** nowadays though, as is the lightweight division. It'll be good if Marquez is able to snaffle a belt, but I wouldn't say that the 4 division argument holds a conclusive amount water because of the relative lack of depth in the aforementioned divisions.
I think Barrera, Diaz, Pacquiao (D), Casamayor, in addition to winning titles in 4 seperate weight divisions might just be enough. It's debatable. It depends who he beats, if he beats Bradley then it's very impressive. Bradley is a good Junior Welter.
