Andre ward fought a very clever fight that is not in doubt at all, he even admitted after the fight he watched calzaghe against kessler and the way that fight played out. But the big factor in tonights fight was the headbutts they totally disorientated kessler and he even said from as early as round 4 he was having trouble seeing. That puts you at a huge dissadvantage if you cant see the punches coming. And then to compound things further for kessler he gets headbutted again in the 8th round over his other eye. Two huge cuts and the man had guts to keep going. Huge respect to kessler for not taking the easy way out himself and for showing guts of a champion. I like ward and I think he is hugely talented, but tonights fight its a shame to say the deciding factor was the headbutts and the resulting cuts and blurred vision for kessler. I think kessler will come again though and his next fight against Froch is one he will win and he will get back a world championship. And who would bet against these two doing it all again by the end of this tournament.
But he was losing all the big early rounds. The head-butts certainly didn't help. But blood made Andre go wild. He would've been tighter and winning rounds without throwing big shots like he had in the later rounds. Andre was just better, and won fair and square.
I figured Calzaghe fans would be on damage control more so than the Kessler fans, it was inevitable i suppose.
Let me guess. You wanted Calzaghe to be the only one to beat Kessler to make Calzaghe look like some kind of overlord. No!!! Your motive is very transparent. Ward was and is the better fighter. Every sport has revolving doors and it is over for Calzaghe and Kessler. Face it their time is up. Not to say that Kessler can't come back and be victorious but he will no longer be regarded as the best.
anyone can see the headbutts made difference, but ward is a terrific fighter that is not in doubt. Just imagine though the next fight ward will be favourite against taylor and taylor has nothing to lose and someone with nothing to lose becomes a hell of a dangerous fighter.
I agree with this. Bad way for the fight to go, when Ward could have won without the headbutts and subsequent cuts. He's a dirty punk. Sad stuff.
I always thought Kessler was overrated. And he lost here and he was going to loss headbutts or not. However, Ward intentionally headbutted him, just straight up dirty. Maybe he can confess it to God in church.
Definitely the headbutts were a huge disadvantage for Kessler. But even before the headbutts were a problem, Ward was already winning pretty decisively. I just didn't see any evidence from what Kessler was doing that showed that the fight would have gone differently w/o the cuts caused by the headbutts.
Even the biased Showtime team agreed that the headbutts were the deciding factor in the fight - and they said this before the fight was stopped by the doctor..
Thats your opinion, I dont care who beats who and I have said I thought ward fought a smart fight, also ward is a good fighter but you cant deny the fact the cuts hampered kessler from early on. I have never seen kessler miss so much and by such a huge margin that can only be down to vison.
Even before? Kessler got a concussion from a dramatic headbut in round 2. So Ward was not winning anything decisively early in round 2. In the end Ward won the fight by a mere two rounds. And all rounds except the first round Kessler fought with concussions from several headbutts. So Kessler fought nine rounds with severe concussive headbuts... and needed only three of those nice to win the fight.
Nah . . . Kesller was being owned in every round . . . even prior to the cut. Even without the cut Kesller is bound to lose. :yep
Im a Calzaghe fan, but why would I care if Ward beats Kessler? or need to make excuses? I watched the fight out of interest for the super 6 and a love of boxing. Headbutts were a factor, even showtime said he butted like a billy goat on one occasion. Watch it again and try not to be biased, a lil like the ref was.
How can you justify those appalling cuts made by them deliberate headbutts?:-( (Im not even a Kessler fan)
