The OFFICIAL (Ref ishy) Kessler-Ward up all night and morning RBR

Ward was holding,no problem with that but I didn't like the way he was hitting on the break. Think that was Mikkels main gripe.

The ref came up to him late on in the fight and had to tell he should fight out till he said 'stop'

Yep, apparently he was headbutted just before the stoppage - ala Holt vs Torres II

 

Not really surprised I must say. Ward is a fundamentally good skilled fighter. Fight was not that difficult for him at all which exposes the true level of Kessler. Kessler was not off rather Ward is that good. I said at the start of the series don't be surprised if 2 Americans named Andre are in the final. I thought Dirrel deserved the decision against Froch.

 

Olu, sorry to go off-topic, but is there any update on Ajose? I haven't heard anything after the fight fell through, other than a proposed tournament that might take place.

If you wanna see a great boxing display from Ward its worth watching, or if you want to see Kessler beat up and cut/swollen real bad. Otherwise look away.

 

I'll look away. Did Ward just have Kessler's number? I red something about head butts how bad were they mate? Really wish i had stayed into night :verysad

 

Well the headbutts were bad headbutts, obviously, enough to cut Kessler's eye lid and then swell completely over after about 4 or 5 rounds. I think the main butt that did the damage was in round 2 but it took a few rounds to become a major hindarance. Later on there was another that opened a smaller cut. There were a few inbetween also.

As for whether they are intentional, wouldn't like to say. Slowing replays down isn't really a fair way of looking at it, in real speed its different. Ward did lean in and appear to push his head in but only he knows for sure. The styles also made for it as Kessler was coming forward and Ward lept in with hooks.

Ya Ward had his number. He won the first 4 when the eye wasn't a problem, and Kessler showed no signs of changing things really.

 

If the fight had been a lot closer, I think an issue could have been made of that. There was perhaps a bit of underhandedness going on there... perhaps dirty tactics.

Having said that, I'm not sure how much of it was Kessler's inability to fight on the inside or out of a clinch.

It didn't affect the overall outcome of the fight though.

 

About the only good thing for Kessler tonight is he got out of there with Ward only getting points for a decision. It means he's still in this thing if he recovers mentally and the injuries. That was literally the only positive thing, there wasn't much else to take from it. It's not like he could say the jab was effective, or something else was effective, nothing worked offensively and he got hit a lot.

Well, that and he fought on in difficult circumstances and showed good toughness.

 

Thanks TFFP. Shame Kessler didn't take ward out, out of Kessler, Froch & Abraham, Kessler was my favorite to take Ward out. Dirrel might be able to do it but i doubt the other two can.

 

Froch v Kessler will be a a total war now. Froch could lirerally end Kessler's career if he puts up the fight of his life!!!
